I’m wondering what the ordering process was for the R1T/S. When you ordered did everyone in the reservation list order at the same time or was it based on your reservation number? Once you ordered did they tell you how long it would take for the to build your car? Just wondering what to expect for R2. Really excited about it but reserved mine on February 12 2026 so I’m way way down on the list. So just trying to figure out how long the wait will be and how the ordering process goes. Once ordered will they tell us how long it will roughly be to be built?

Not a great comparison. The ordering process in the very beginning was vastly different than it is now, and I think the current process is more accurate.

They'll provess orders in the sequence they were received, and current Rivian owners also get priority. I'd estimate at least a year of production before you take delivery, based on reservation date and depending on what trim you want.

2025 Rivian R1T - Large. Delivered on November 23, 2024.

Welcome to the club! This was the unnerving part of the whole process - there was virtually NO communications from Rivian once I placed my order for my R1T in September of 2024. I go a couple tacit "your reservation moved to build" notes, in the first weeks, but that was about it. The factory reps had no additional information other than "Yes! Your order is being worked on!". They said it WOULD (and it did) take 12 weeks for my R1T to be built. Around week 10, I started to get more notifications to click through various delivery processes, contracts and address final financing. Then in week 11, I got the note that the truck was done and in transit to my region, and I should schedule delivery.

This "Direct to Consumer" was a totally new concept for me after decades of going through the dealership models. It was unnerving, but on hindsight, really a NICE process. No surprises. No "Gotcha's". Nothing other than what was defined in the process.

We reserved our R2 in April of 2025, but I think we're going to hold off on pursuing ownership until after the launch edition gets out there and "hardened" a bit.

Rivian learned a lot from the R1 launch and they definitely will not do the same.

The 3/12 configuration release will provide data to Rivian which combo's of options are most popular in the order of vehicles configured by the reservation holders. They probably will batch in large quantities for the higher concentration of vehicle finishes. Even the LE will have some variability in terms of options packages.

These vehicles will end up in the "shop" (read inventory) and Rivian will most likely offer the reservation holders in the order of deposit made.

as I recall, you configured your preorder online. Then you waited 1-3 years for your number to come up.

when it was your turn, you got an email and access to the online “shop” page. At that time you could either wait for your preordered configuration to be built and ready, or you could pick one of the models ready to go on the shop page. This was all a bit confusing and not well communicated.

Got the email, logged in the next day to see 10-20 R1S models in the shop. Different colors, wheels, interiors. None were what I originally ordered. By the end of that day there was only one left and it looked good so I picked it. Built in probably April 2023, delivered in June. (Somebody else with a July ‘23 is probably driving around in the forest green / black mountain I originally configured.)

Honestly it was a complete mess and mostly random. There are people that waited years for their reservation and others who waited many months (even after deliveries were under way). I personally know at least 1 person that "reserved" and picked up their R1T the following week. It's all just lucky timing (or it was for R1).

This is about right for R1, no real process to really see. They were trying to deliver where they had service locations within reasonable proximity to the deliveries. Now that the service infrastructure is well under way, might be more process in the initial R2 rollouts.

I preordered my R1 on 6/8/2020, took delivery 1/26/2023.

I’ll be curious to see if the R2 process is better, supposedly they are prioritizing preorder time and existing R1 customers. Pretty sure I was first hour (10:05 am PST) preorder on 3/7/2024 and have an R1S, live in an area with several service centers so in theory I should be a pretty early on the R2 list. Only time will tell how they roll out this time though.
