As shared in another thread here my OG Gen 1 R1T (Rosie) was deemed a total loss a couple weeks ago. In anticipation I started looking for replacements over a month ago. First thought was simply finding another 22 Launch Edition as I was completely satisfied with my truck. Second thought was going Gen 2 Tri, don't really care about the autonomy stuff but if the price was right why not? Third thought was switching over to an R1S Quad or Tri. With all that the search began with a few must haves.
1. Ocean Coast interior/Slate Sky if Gen 2 - Rosie was Rivian Blue with Black and I settled off my preferred combo of Limestone/Ocean Coast. This time around I stood strong on Ocean Coast
2. PTC if I ended up with another R1T
With those must haves the first thing that struck me was how few and far between Gen 1 R1T's are available nationwide with Ocean Coast interior with my cap of trucks with under 30k miles, at any point over the last month and a half I've only found around 20 at any point in time. Of the ones I inquired about none of them had a PTC other than the one I ended up purchasing. Prior to this one I ordered a preowned Glacier/Ocean Coast direct from Rivian (I discovered a few interesting quirks on that process but I'll save that for another thread) but once I found out it didn't have one nor was it wired to add it I canceled the order. They weren't able to find another one other than a Forest Green which I'm not to keen on. As for the possibility of a Gen 2 tri, there was all of 1 that fit the bill and it was listed at 96k. Went to my Service Center and drove an R1S as I'm aware of all the they don't ride as good as the R1T and after a short trip that was confirmed and crossed off the list. It was a Gen 2 Quad though and was stupid fast! So with all of this said I remembered @LindsayVW being mentioned a year or so ago and came across quite bit of their inventory on the usual sites. I contacted the manager (who also posted in a couple of those threads) to ask him a few high level questions and to get an idea of how they incorporate Rivian in their processes. He gave my information to one of his sales guys and we started a dialogue.
Since this is getting long I'll fast forward to Saturday morning me and a buddy flew from Houston to VA to pick up my truck and 36 hours and 1400 miles later she (yet to be named) was home. They did not ask for a plug but anyone interested in pre-owned, don't hesitate to reach out to Steven and his team over at Lindsay. The process was painless, no surprise fees or extras, and I was in and out in under 2 hours. While not their fault the only thing that is annoying to deal with is assuming ownership of the vehicle in the App. They do offer a guide that allows you to upload your ownership documents which was easy but you are still at the mercy of Rivian processing it which of course wasn't going to happen prior to the trip home. That made charging a little of a challenge but I went ahead and got a Tesla membership and was able to activate charging via the app. I already had an EA membership but the interesting one was the one RAN charger it sent us to where I had no clue what would happen if they didn't have the option to scan a payment option. The truck actually starting charging once it was plugged in (not sure where that bill is gonna go). All in we had 9 charging spots, 7 Tesla, 1 EA, 1 RAN. I was not looking for optimum efficiency as we were at 80 plus primarily the whole trip. the route planner was pretty much identical to what ABRP planned and the ETA was spot on every time. So we are back safe and sound and catching up on rest.
Lone Rivian in a sea of Tesla's. Cracker Barrel in Mississippi
The lone RAN charger in Baton Rogue. Great charging location with several restaurants nearby. A flatbed was dropping of a lady in a Hyundai as she ran out of charge when we pulled up, also the only other Rivian we saw the whole trip.
Last Charging stop in Beaumont, TX.
Final Stats!
