Would you consider getting the performance boost if it wasn't an EXTRA FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS? :)

I've owned stormbreaker 3 years this coming december and thought that if Rivian had a sale price for the dual motor performance, I would jump on that.

Nah not needed, I have a Gen 1 R1T Dual without performance amd a 26 Gen2 Dual with Performance barely a difference.

Do you mean there is no discernable difference in 'seat of the pants' feel?

Math wise...

Its a little bit more than $5k carrying taxes and interest using same terms in financing
Its "only" $3,265.21 using Rivian promo financing terms for 6yr loan\
If leasing, the Performance adds $16/mo to the payment under 3/30 BUT being given $3k incentive is $83/mo over the 36 months... so it technically is "cheaper" to lease a performanance... (In other words, if you make the downpayment $0, you will see the non-performance costs more)

The added HP is only in sport. It also adds more ride height options, launch mode, another way to lock AWD on the street beyond stability reduced (though now included in non perf), as well as sand and rally for off-road.

Rally is a great undervalued mode. Launch is a good way to f-up the drive shafts.

Stormbreaker!? I thought Rivian limited the naming of non-quad motor variants to more docile vehicle names?

I have an R1T-Dual motor and it moves when I need it to move. I'm not much of a lead foot, nor into chirping the tires on launch, but when I need to get around some Memme driving 20mph under the speed limit; it's spot on.

I have the dual motor and honestly I have no idea why people feel the need for this thing to be faster. It's a 7k pound SUV, it's never going to feel remotely close to a sports car (there are some people that say it feels like a sports car to them...just hilarious), and even in base form it's as quick in a straight line as my BMW sport sedan from less than a decade ago.

This is a cruiser. It's more than quick enough to merge into traffic even without the performance option.

I don't begrudge anyone who buys it, it's your money, do with it what you will...I just don't get it.

I have a dual WITH the upgrade, I have never driven a non-upgraded one, but I love every bit of HP/torque at my disposal, and wouldn't want to be without it.

When I bought used, it just happened to have already been upgraded, so I got to skip paying for it.

Not sure how the min/max limits in the RAD Tuner with regard to the "Acceleration" setting and 'Relaxed' = 0% and 'Responsive' = 100% impact the 1200 ft/lb torque and 1025hp values.... But it would be interesting to test drive a Quad Motor, pull up RAD Tuner and then drive in 0% and 100%.

Obviously this would be much faster than a dual but it might give you a feeling of with and without the package.

You also I think have up to 60 days to add on the Perf Package...

I would not consider at $5k. My vehicle came with the offroad package which means I already have sand and rally mode so I would be double paying for features. If they reduced the price and it was randomly on sale, I might consider it.

Interesting tradeoff for $5k vs $5.7k between Performance vs All-Terrain:

35% torque bump, 25% HP bump, and Sport Mode - less range due to driving habits
Dark Accents (formerly $1000), AT wheels, underbody shield - less range due to HW

Basically, what is your use case.

Nope. Honestly, trucks are for towing, hauling and commuting. Even a standard EV is plenty quick off the line, and once I'd done a few hard pulls (and thought about tire costs) I pretty much tamed my right foot. I do have the Performance add-on, but it came with the truck when I bought it used. If I was buying one now, I'd opt to save the money and just have regular acceleration.
