You could try making a sharp turn left then right while accelerating. That puts a lot of stress on the CV joints, you may hear increased noise under those circumstances.

Sounds like hub bolt coming in contact with half shaft casing. That is the bolt backing out slowly thing. Its a thing, but you can identify easily by looking at back of hub.

I think the thread indicated its being worked on by SC now though, so let us know. YOu can ask them to get your pics. They did for me.

Great job capturing that noise. Could be CV joint but could also be the knuckle bolts. There was a field service action on those backing out.

I had a similar noise and just got my truck back out of service. They replaced both the front dampers, did the FSA for the knuckles and the truck is 85% improved.

I have driven over 10 different Rivian Gen1 vehicles and all of them have some level of noise unfortunately. Some noise is normal making it more frustrating trying to get service to address.

Overall though Rivian service has been good about addressing issues.

Quick update - they ended up replacing both front half shafts (CV axles) to fix the knocking noise.
Just took my R1T into the Cincy SC for what sounds exactly like your problem. On the ride to show the tech, he quickly concluded it was hub bearings.

That said - still in service. Will let you know what I hear back.

What do you all think of this sound? I've always had loud rattling, but this one sounds different. Maybe the same issue, just getting worse?

Both front dampers. Not sure if they torqued the axles too. I’ll have to pull the service receipt.

It look me a total of about four months to get Rivian to address it. Not the fault of service center staff…they are completely overwhelmed with vehicles.

I have this exact noise from the OP. I can reproduce in either direction at will. I have several videos.

SC replaced half shafts, hubs, dampers, suspension lines. They have now contacted engineering and after driving with microphones to diagnose are replacing the entire front subframe with a gen2 retrofit.

Also I’m on my fifth set of tires so wonder if this has always been the issue.
