So many puffy coats and flannel in those photos, you know it must be Colorado!

I am curious about the seats, they look to be a dark gray and not black.

I agree. And although (i) carmakers are ridiculously loose with their color names, and (ii) photos rendered on electronic display surfaces without color calibration on both ends can be significantly inaccurate, I have definitely not yet seen a single R2 interior photo that is darker than a dark gray. My Ioniq5 interior is way blacker than this.

I did some R2 cargo area measurements because dog crate options are key for me.

Biggest limitation for me is the cargo hatch opening, since I need a crate for a large GSD. Inside cargo area ceiling height is 31" inch-ish, but the cargo opening has a lower lip at around 29" inches. There aren’t really any travel crates the size I need that are that short.

Cargo area width (wheel well to wheel well) is about 41" inch, and depth to the back of seats up is about 36.5" inch.

Thanks. That’s the numbers I needed. It’s pretty good but I can see that the entry opening will be tight. If the seats fold flat the 36” seat depth won’t be a problem. anyone know how wide the back door opening is (not the rear hatch).

Thanks, I had my daughters kiddie tape measure that went to 18” so I ballparked it. Looks like I was off on the depth. The rear seats lean back a bit and the rear hatch door leans in a bit so not sure the actual depth with everything closed. Would have had to sit in the truck with it closed to measure. That was chewing into my 2 minutes they gave us to crawl around the interior.

Sounds like Rivian needs to partner with someone to sell a crate size that fits perfectly in the truck. Then the problem is solved for those that need it.
I think that’s a great idea About the dog crates. They can make one for the R2 and the R1. I hope they watch this forum to get great ideas. The dog crate that is crash tested is the best for me. So much money for them to get off of your idea. I was thinking the same thing.

Its a bit deceptive to me. The classic SUV styling plus wheelbase plus height/ground clearance make it seem larger than it is IMO. It actually sits between a RAV4 and Honda Passport Trailsport.

Anyone know what this “approach/depature” angle means?

Anyone know what this “approach/depature” angle means?
Yeah, it's the angle from a flat surface that the vehicle can drive up / or back down, without contacting the front/rear of the vehicle. It's affected by the design, overhangs, height/tire height, etc.

Like if you've ever driven up a steep driveway and scrapped the front end, that's where the approach angle for the vehicle was too low (or the driveway too steep of an angle).

For reference, our '24 Wrangler Rubi on 33" tires has a 44 degree approach angle :p

Is the height of the opening, adjustable? Meaning, can we limit how far the tailgate opens?
One of the reps seemed to think that it would be adjustable but wasn't in the models at the Denver block party. I am 6'4" and did fit under the tailgate opening (just barely).

Thanks. Being only 6'2" and shrinking, I wasn't concerned about that as much as whether it will open so far that it'll crunch the garage door when the door is open and car is inside. My MME had to be adjusted so it didn't open quite all the way to avoid that problem. Ford provided that control standard.

Am I wrong to be concerned about the exposed edge of the rear side window when the back hatch is open? I think it looks kind of cool but it seems like that glass could be vulnerable or potentially get misaligned with the hatch door resulting in shattering or preventing the door from closing.

Hopefully I'm just overthinking it.
