So I put GOAT sliders on my 26 R1S Tri over the weekend. I chose to leave the plastic trim off rather than try to trim it and fit the sliders over it. Living in the midwest I didn't want those gaps becoming catch points for snow, slush, mud, etc. I'm thinking about having a shop tape off that area and have them do undercoating for protection and also possibly considering having the sliders take on that same treatment as they should last far longer with that level of protection.

Am I overthinking this entirely on either or both fronts?

@DCE Weistec.com makes superior rocksliders and side steps and other premium products for your Rivian.

My R2 accessories will also be from @DCE

From my 2018 R1S deposit and taking delivery in 2023 I watched many aftermarket accessories and went with @DCE @twraps and @EveryAmp.

It's always a choice of buy it nice and buy it once or go with lower cost.

I wasn't asking for a sales pitch for other sliders.

You're overthinking it. I have EV Sportline's sliders (highly recommend but will spare you the sales pitch) and haven't bothered to replace any of the plastic trim. The GOAT sliders look similar enough that they should be comparable. 2.5 years later and everything looks and works just fine.

Rivian's e-coat on the frame seems to be pretty thick. Haven't noticed any sort of corrosion or rust since putting my rock sliders on. You still end up trapping a bunch of crap up in those panels. I'd say it might actually end up in a worse spot with the panels on since you're not getting as effective of an underbody wash at a car wash.

As someone who grew up in the Midwest (Cleveland Ohio), my recommendation is to leave your sliders as is and do undercarriage wash of your Rivian during the snow season.

I offered the other accessory makers tags as recommendations for future accessories purchases.

Finally, canvasback.com makes really good seatback covers

Sorry but after looking at their slider mount points I'd never recommend them. The goat sliders have shear bolts and better connection to the frame. The sliders they sell are steps not rock sliders based on their weak mount points. I'm sure they probably make quality parts but not for me

The dce sliders are structural and can support the full weight of the vehicle. I installed them on my R1s after months of research. These are high quality rock sliders.

I’ve heard good things about the Goat ones too.

Glad the DCE is working for you - I have a feeling the service center isn't going to be OK with those on while doing service which is going to add chaos. To the other point earlier the DCE build is thinner and spreading the load across more bolt points which I guess is ok but I prefer the simplicity of the GOAT 4 point bolt system.

The @DCE rock sliders were the only accepted rock sliders in the Brooklyn New York service center in 2023.

The reason was that other rock sliders bend when attempting to lift Rivian vehicles.

That doesn't mean jack. As each SC are able to, and do, make their own judgment calls. AND, IIRC, DCE's uses the HV pack's mounting points. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to speculate what will happen if service requires access those mounting points.

Common sense: The greater degree you modify—and stray from original factory spec—the less latitude you have to operate within any OEM's risk management policy. And those who chose Goat's chose it for this very same common sense.

Just stop the wannabe-influencer crap and stick to the question being asked. This isn't religion. You're not going to convert someone else to be a believer like yourself, to ensure your own entry into heaven.
