I wondered this too when, in the video, they say: "And yes, you can continue to use your existing sunshades and roofliners just like before." Why would you need or want to?
The base panel doesn't have anything on it, just bare gray gel coat.
Presumably the CF is just layers of CF which does not have a particularly high insulation value. A sunshade or roof liner could provide an additional level of thermal insulation.
It is carbon fiber top and bottom with a foam insulation sandwiched in between.

You are correct — the base model does not include an interior liner. If your Rivian currently has the glass roof with a sunshade, you can reuse your existing sunshade rather than choosing the liner option, (or choose a liner option with your choice of color).

Yes, both models are made with our Symphonic foam insulation sandwiched between top and bottom carbon fiber layers.

In terms of strength, we have designed our Symphonic Carbon Fiber Roof to be in a completely different category than the OEM glass. It is far more impact-resistant and will not crack or shatter like a glass roof.

Now make a version that slides open, or has removable panels!
I am very interested in this idea. Rivian years ago said it would provide a removable roof option. A retrofit that does that would be amazing.

Might be great for hot climates like Arizona/Nevada if it blocks visible light but any data on how much heat it blocks?

Also interested in the difference it makes in audio. We all know the sound system in the R1 (non-Meridian) is mediocre at best.

How difficult is installation?
The installation is straight forward and similar to the installation of the OEM glass roof. Any local windshield or glass roof installer can replace your glass roof with our Symphonic Carbon Fiber roof.

Thanks for answering that.

Based on our experience—after testing multiple R1T vehicles with our Symphonic Carbon Fiber Roof over the past 10 months—we consistently observe significantly improved heat blocking. The cabin is much better insulated from external conditions, both in terms of temperature and noise.

This performance is driven largely by our engineered foam core, which acts as an effective thermal and acoustic barrier. The benefits extend to colder environments as well, helping maintain interior comfort and reduce HVAC demand year-round.

This is where we believe our product truly stands apart.

Over the past several months, we tested multiple vehicles with different versions of our Symphonic foam core to precisely tune the in-cabin audio experience. While it’s difficult to fully convey without hearing it firsthand, the difference is consistently described as day and night by anyone who has compared the OEM setup to a vehicle equipped with our Symphonic Carbon Fiber Roof.

The improvement in sound quality is dramatic—music becomes clearer, more balanced, and more immersive, to the point where it feels like an entirely different audio system.

Our approach is grounded in well-established acoustic principles: carbon fiber combined with a properly engineered foam core enhances sound reflection and reduces unwanted dissipation within the cabin. The result is a noticeably richer and more refined listening experience that exceeds expectations.

Are there any pics showing what it looks line on the inside? How difficult is installation?
Here is a picture showing how it looks like inside with the black liner.

Awesome. And you used the forest interior (best). What would it look like without the liner? Would it be black gloss like the top? I don't imagine it would be a rough CF look like the bottom of a hood since it's dual layer. If it's a finished gloss i don't see any reason why I'd feel the need to have a fabric/suede look.

It's interesting that you are saying that it enhances sound reflection. Typically glass is one of the most reflective surfaces for audio whereas foam tends to absorb sound for less reflection and usually helps dissipate the sound. Are you sure you listed that correctly?

I wish this were a factory option. Living in SoCal, we do not need the sun coming through the roof. Increased thermal efficiency and lower road noise are clear bonuses.

When my glass breaks (again), and I'm out of warranty, I'm all in.
