They also had a Ford Explorer Hybrid that was neither performance oriented nor fuel efficient. They had a Lincoln Aviator that was PHEV but they didn't really advertise it? Anyway, it sounded good on paper.I want to like Ford. But, they made so many bad choices. Early on, they had the Escape PHEV that competed with the RAV4 Prime. They didn’t improve it, now there’s no Escape and a waiting list for the 2026 RAV4 PHEV. Ford has the highest recall rates out there. The Lightening 150 was too big, overpriced, and not beloved by the 150 community. Meanwhile, there’s the R2, BMW iX3, Volvo ex60 and Audi Q6 out there. They don’t even have a competitor to the Equinox EV. Sad!
I owned a Ford Explorer ST and loved it. Wife had a Mach-E as well and we loved that car just as much. The problem is that Ford makes a good vehicle and then let's it die a long and painful death. No meaningful refresh. No re-iteration. No significant updates. Definitely no next generation. Just ignore until it disappears.
Company with great ideas on paper but cannot focus or do anything consistently. I do also think Farley is partly to blame. He seems to keep chasing trends instead of providing a vision for the company and improving the current products. I maybe wrong (probably) but that has been my conjecture based on vehicle ownership and all the pivots and half baked products (and recalls).
As for the topic at hand, I think this upcoming vehicle and platform will do well. 10 years late to the party but better late than never. Not a pickup guy myself but a smaller EV version does sound very appealing.
