I thought I would feel this way about returning to a wagon vs a tall UV until one trip changed my mind. We filled the cargo area with luggage on the way to the airport in my X3. We landed and had rented a M3 Competition Estate...same platform, right? The luggage did not all fit without losing...

Sorry, but I respectfully disagree. These were developed as adventures in the various design offices to figure out how to get UV rejectors interested in something they could sell as "sporty". Any Cd benefit was a side effect.
