If you took the badge off of this, I would guess about 50 car manufacturers before I got to Ferrari. Most Ferraris look like Ferraris. This looks like it could just as well be a Kia or BYD.
Subaru had made their entire business on ground clearance and good AWD. People all across the northern half of the country love the extra ground clearance and AWD in the snow and woods.
Honestly I'd say ditch the whole contraption and hardwire a Tesla Universal Wall Connector. It has both NACS and J1772 built in. It'll be safer and simpler.
I kinda don't get it. They don't supply the charger or accessories with the R1S. So CARB standards can't have much to do with it right? Why are they doing this?
My concern is a loose connection at the outlet is causing excessive heat. The heat is then just radiating down the wires causing the warmth to be felt far away.
This is how EV charger fires start. Most of them are due to poor outlet connections causing excessive heat.
I suggest replacing the...
Go to the configurator page and click on the accessories at the bottom.

Is setting the charging amperage on the car itself cumbersome, or very quick? Do you need Wi-Fi for that, or does the phone connect via Bluetooth? On the Lectron portable charger, it's a quick button press.
How do you handle charging from a 30a outlet using the Rivian charger plus an adapter? You can't set charging speed on the Rivian portable charger, as far as I understand.
I will probably use them because they're fairly ubiquitous. I will probably make minor efforts to avoid them. But I definitely don't want to have any of their gear in my house.
The Tesla Mobile Connector is good. $300 with lots of available plug types. Lectron makes a nice one with selectable amps up to 40. DeWalt also has a good one with lots of plug options.
My plan is to get the Lectron with the 14-50 plug, then a some converters so it'll work with 6-50, 14-30, and...
The Rivian portable charger kinda sucks compare to alternatives. Only two plugs available. No selectable amperage. Maxes at 32a. Big meh and only worth it if it's free.
I am absolutely not going to trust an outlet for long term charging, especially if I'm going to be bringing the portable charger with me on trips frequently. Frequent plugging and unplugging is a great way to wear out the outlet and cause a fire.
It's like $400 for a proper 48 amp hardwire...
