Ha. I get that a lot of people think like this, it takes all kinds. But for me, roads are roads, trails are trails, snow is snow, campsites are campsites. 4 wheels and some electrons got me there yesterday, they'll do just fine tomorrow.
Not mark, but I’d say just give it a quick try sometimes. I had never changed a tire before Rivian, started doing my own tire rotations, then when I got a flat off road it was easy to change cause I’d been practicing.
the method is also very straightforward. Put vehicle in off-road highest...
I’m guessing this is one reason the lower height is coming out now that you can input the tire size in the settings. Still maybe a bit risky to assume everyone’s tire size is set correctly.
The top two mirror buttons there are the lights on the outside of the mirrors. (Another request of mine is to enable those while driving off road as mini ditch lights.) The fold mirror button is the one on the left, third from the top.
My concern isnt range itself, it’s battery size because that translates to range whenever conditions are less than perfect. Cold, windy, towing, rooftop box, camping, etc. I’m not sure if R2 has the battery capacity for the “adventures” I can do with R1. We’ll see.
Thanks for sharing your experience. Whenever a family asks me about R1S i tell them to look at EV9. If you decide the adventure features are worth it then go R1S and you will be thrilled, but if you want an electric minivan then it’s probably not the right car for you — too many inconveniences...
The other advantage of R1S is range and towing. R2 won’t be impressive there unless they make a much bigger battery pack option, which they probably won’t because it competes with R1
People who know, know that lack of a frunk is a huge miss. But people who know is not the target buyer. If the range is good for the price then I'm sure people will buy.
Counterpoints - if you are actually off-roading, the gap is smaller. R2 has a bit shorter wheelbase. With traditional suspension, it might be easier to put a 2-3" lift on the R2. Highest in R1 is only for specific scenarios, High is just over 13", so that already equalizes things.
This really...
I'd be willing to downsize. Smaller size and weight are generally appealing to me, although the storage in R1S is nice. I would have to sacrifice some off roading ability, but that's probably ok.
When I got the R1S (2023), there was no other EV SUV with reasonable 4WD and ground clearance...
Saw on one of these that under-trunk storage compartment is gone.
Any suggestions on how to store a full size spare on an R2? Probably going to have to be a swing-away mount on the back?
