The 12V system is there to run most of the electronics, as it's a lot easier/cheaper to get 12V compatible components than 400V ones.
The batteries are there because in certain situations the high voltage pack needs to be disconnected for safety (or in the case of a battery condition/fire)...
Ok, so I did a somewhat scientific test today. I should have gone one more lap, but it was getting late in the day.
Weather was not ideal - windy/gusty with a few light showers (only on the first cycle). Traffic was mostly not a factor.
Method:
Arrive to EA, charge to 70% (let truck end...
Add me to that list :)
Sounds like you've got potential buyers for 3 or 4 2 or 3 out of 5.
I'm in Indiana - I'd pay $800 shipped for one of the clean used ones. I wish I had plans to be that direction, I'd pick up 2 and deliver one to Wisconsin for a small fee :p
Edit: Looks like thebwk has...
I think the gap in efficiency will close between dual and quad motors when towing, but impossible to know for sure.
My rationale is that the motors are only noticeably inefficient at very light or and very heavy load. Towing at highway speeds likely puts the quad motors at/near their peak...
One thing to point out - the Macan is much smaller than the R1T - I think you'd see a much smaller hit using a pickup.
Most people get ~13mpg at 70 with this trailer, but I think most people with a Tacoma are more like 21mpg unloaded @ 70mph, F150s are 19-20.
My gut says a diesel loses about...
When towing a trailer, the extra 30kwh (~30-50mi) might be all the difference of making it to a fast charger or not - The goal is that there are DCFC every ~50 miles on interstates, but there are lots of gaps still and ridiculously unreliable stations. Right now, headed south out of Chicago...
I have been reasonably pleased with the Rivian ones. I *hated* the ones that came on my Mustang. I just put some Pirellis on our Macan and they are comparable to the Michelins that came with the car... a little softer, a little more grip and don't balance out quite as well.
My low 17000's vin has been very good, no weird wind noise, etc. Lacking frunk 12v. I think somewhere between 14000 and 17000 there were some dips in quality, but I wouldn't be too worried.
The EA station closest to me works great - 8 stalls, one has been offline for like 2-3 months, but otherwise plenty of capacity and no reduced rates.
Conversely, *literally* every other EA station I've been to has had reduced speeds and/or multiple chargers non-functional.
Charging the R1T at...
What was the test? Seems flawed, as we'd expect it to be the other direction, and probably not even that much difference (8%!? That's more than you should see between 21s and 22s)
I removed mine after about 2 months. IMO they look far better. Also, the covers have already have etched clear coat in the wheels from where they clip in.
If I get a free weekend I may do an A-B-A 50mi test to see if there's a measurable difference. I expect a ~3% change (~10mi total range)
The tire wear makes sense if you think of the stress you're putting on them...
Most FWD vehicles are under 4000lbs. Usually ~3500lbs.
So in conserve, the Rivian is going to apply twice as much torque (wear) to accelerate at the same rate.
Then, there's the factor of deceleration (braking) - In...
Them not offering it anytime soon ?
It was honestly one of the key things that got us excited about the truck. But while waiting on it to arrive we bought a camper, so it's kind of redundant.
If you're willing to break them apart as spares for people, I'd be very interested. Let me/us know your price of you're willing to ship. I'm located in Indiana.
I WANTED ANOTHER RANGE INCREASE!
But if we're getting this kind of of updates for the forseeable future, the truck will continue improving in meaningful ways. I think they'll work out most of my complaints eventually.
