Finally, some math! It seems a lot of people forget that any given wheel is only driven by one motor. If only one wheel has traction, max torque is a quarter of total vehicle torque (ignoring any programmed safety limitations), which may simply not be enough given the gearing and vehicle weight...

Agree on this! If the dual motor has a locker then I think it has the ability to be much better than the quad motor off-road. It would be able to provide more torque to any single wheel than the quad (assuming a dual motor drive unit can output more torque than a single quad drive motor). I...

If they had a locker it would mitigate this completely off road. On road is less concerning, at least to me.

I’m not upset about this. 3.5s 0-60 on the enhanced version is still faster than most sport cars. Possible summer delivery, a price discount, and 400+ mi of range sounds good to me. Even better if it has 800V architecture, a locker, and some of the quality issues worked out by then.

Did your dealer have stock? I’ve been considering the P400 after the max pack got delayed.

Braking one wheel with an open differential is not the same as a locker. You’ll still only get a maximum of 50% torque to the wheel with traction. It may not be intuitive but this article does a decent job explaining it. With a torquey electric motor it may not be much of an issue, but it’s...

I’ve been thinking the same thing. Depending on the news that comes out later this month I may give up on the max pack and look at the Defender. Unfortunately those also have long lead times.

I too have a guide and a locked in max pack config with a 1H23 window. The optimist in me likes to believe that’s a good sign, but I’m trying not to get my hopes up until the late summer announcement. I’ve heard of several others with guides as well. I don’t think it’s that uncommon.

Curious about the claimed issues with suspension failures. I’ve been wondering about the effects of the extra weight on things like that. Even if this is true it’s a good thing it was found in the testing phase!

Has anyone else’s max pack been locked? Mine has and I’m curious why they’d start locking max pack configs if the delivery estimate is still 2023.

For what it’s worth… I’m a max pack holder since late 2018 and was just contacted by my guide to confirm my configuration and delivery address. I’m not sure why they would do that so early (I was given a 1H23 window). Maybe they are simply planning for supply much further out, or just gauging...
