  1. Rivian EVSE and 4 AWG

Here’s why: (i) The OD of 1” flexible metal conduit does not match the readily available clamp sizes, (ii) this clamp is very secure (screwed into the center of the stud) and critically is offset from the back wall sufficiently for the conduit to line up nicely with the knockout on the underside...
  2. Rivian EVSE and 4 AWG

You can do that and it will likely work, but you will fail inspection.
  3. Rivian EVSE and 4 AWG

I would have loved to use it, but that would have required opening a large hole in my living room wall and reaching behind a large slab of marble surrounding a fire place, and running 240v wiring close to a source of heat - absolutely not going there. There is a firebreak between the garage...
  4. Rivian EVSE and 4 AWG

Its totally level, checked twice screwed into the stud to the right of the junction box — I’m OCD about that stuff too.
  5. Rivian EVSE and 4 AWG

I ran 4 AWG THHN in 1" metal conduit to my garage for a little future proofing. It did not cost that much more, but will let me run a dual charger, or a higher current charger down the road without having to pull new wire. I installed my Rivian charger this afternoon and had a pleasant...
  6. Road Trip Underway: MI to CO

Thank you for posting this thread. I’m planning the same trip from MI to Crested Butte, CO, and possibly down to Santa Fe, MN. Your report confirms my fears about the poor state of rural chargers. This is my first EV and I’m jumping in with both feet. Like you will be notifying every charging...
  7. Using a 48a Tesla wall connector to charge an R1T

I’m about to order a TeslaTap MINI 60A. On their website they say that it may not work with the “large Rivian ground pin”. Could you confirm which version of TeslaTap Mini you have that it works for you? Thanks.
  8. Which EV Reservations Do You Have (any EV)?

I’ve come close to ording an Aptera a few times.
  9. Charger payment/timing

8 steps just opened up for me with VIN 102xx, still a 2022 model year (with AT 20s so they must have a new batch in). I‘ve signed the contracts etc, but not uploaded insurance coverage as I don’t have a delivery date, and have not paid anything beyond the $1k deposit. For those of you that...
  10. Carplay? Next?

I am amazed at the troll-like posts by people who likely have little experience using CP/AA or do not lead complex highly scheduled lives where CP/AA help enormously. My next meeting is in my phone, one click and its navigating me there, I join Teams calls from CP, CP reads my text messages and...
  11. Photos: R1T with preproduction Ocean Coast interior

It looks that way because I took the photos through the windows, so it is picking up the window tint.
  12. OCEAN COAST Rivian Interior Photos

A couple of photos from an employee truck that I took though the tinted window at a first mile event last Friday.
  13. Photos: R1T with preproduction Ocean Coast interior

I took the photos last Friday at a first drive at the old Rivian HQ in Plymouth, MI.
  14. Photos: R1T with preproduction Ocean Coast interior

A couple more photos from my first mile event. Employee truck. One the fence between OC and FE based on timing and jean dye transfer.
  15. Wall charger installation at home - suggestions and recommendations? ⚡️⚡️

Hmm, yes I see 6 AWG max on the Rivian EVSE hardwire. This is an issue as code (and common sense) requires the jump from 6AWG to 4AWG and even 3AWG for longer 60A runs (see https://learnmetrics.com/60-amp-wire-size/). I’m going to see if I can expand the wire holes in the EVSE, or worst case...
  16. Wall charger installation at home - suggestions and recommendations? ⚡️⚡️

Your install is similar to mine: 56’ run across basement to garage. I’m using 4 AWG THHN for lives and 8 AWG for ground (due to voltage drop, and a little future proofing) in 1” EMT conduit with 1” Flex conduit at each end. I’ll post more photos as I get time to work on this.
  17. Glass roof UV reduction efficiency measured (@ First Mile Dallas)

I had the same issue with a C8 Corvette, only it was the steeply raked windshield and tumble home on the side windows. High end ceramic tint did an incredible job of eliminating UV and IR. AC fan was noticeable quieter, dark interior never became too hot to get into when parked on warm sunny...
