No change on the 275/65R20? That's the one that really matters to me, the 275/50R22 is already out. Those are the two sizes Rivian are going to be using, so having these as an option will be great. Probably the tire best suited to the Rivian.
This is a superb write up, thank you.
I am glad I waited for gen 2. The gen 1 promises were hopelessly optimistic. I don't see Rivian offering a superior solution to Mobileye given their relatively small volumes. That is unless they partner with someone (like VW who does have the capital...
Same here, have had Pirelli Scorpions as OEM on multiple vehicles (Volvo, Range Rover) and I've always been disappointed in them.
I only buy Michelin for summer tires, and Michelin or Nokian for winter. Both brands have never let me down. Pirelli on the other hand I find get nosier, their...
Looking for a car seat for the R1S that allows the seat to fold for 3rd access without having to remove the seat. Does anyone have any recommendations? Safety is obviously paramount but surely I can't be the only parent with this issue.
They’ll be far more efficient than the Pirelli ATR, that’s for sure. I’m expecting efficiency close to the stock 22’s. Better in rain, dry, noise, comfort, longevity, and snow.
My guess given the siping the M/S2’s will perform better in snow and given their lighter weight and tread they will do better on road. So really the question is how each performs off road.
Personally I don’t care how a tire looks, it’s purely down to how it performs and the Defender LTX M/S2 is...
I think he said he was planning more testing of them. It was more to show that in snow the Defenders are superior and it’s basically guaranteed they will out perform the Pirellis on road so it’s really just a question of how they perform off road.
I’d put money on the Defenders easily out performing the Scorpions in all on-road conditions.
The only area the Scorpions may have an advantage is in off roading. The Defenders even out perform the Scorpions in winter.
I’m a European living in the states too and I swear by winter tires - but in testing the Defender M/S2’s absolutely trash the 3PMSF Pirelli ATR tires.
Personally I’d be running dedicated winter tires.
Good to hear I'm not the only one. I also sent a follow up email asking if the X-Ice Snow SUV's will be coming in 275/65R20 as I'd like either those or the Nokian R5 SUV's for winter driving.
Yeh there's no way they won't be rated high enough for Rivian. Michelin play close attention to this stuff.
The platinums are a different sort of tire. Heavier, more off road focused. I wanted the Defender LTX M/S2 as they are the ultimate for a pure on road focus. Quieter, more efficient, probably handle better than the platinums.
I reached out to Michelin support yestarday regarding if/when the 275/65R20 size would be available for the Michelin Defender LTX M/S2.
They told me it is being released August 1st 2024.
That's great news as I am waiting until the refresh to get my R1S and plan on immediately swapping the...
I'm waiting for the Michelin Defender LTX M/S2 in the 275/65R20 size. Still decent on typical dirt paths, quiet, great range, safe in inclement weather.
Best of all worlds. I live in Texas so handling is a none issue and I really want that Rolls Royce floating carpet feeling and as little tire...

These are the sorts of fuses I was talking about, they use standard automotive fuses that are dirt cheap. I've seen these used a lot with aftermarket trailer...
Yes you would connect it to the primary battery and not the capacitor (capacitors are great for sudden spikes (voltage, watts aka power) but have very low energy density (Ah, Wh aka energy). Just hook up your device for the lights to the primary, if it were me I would make sure there's an...
Sounds like it's defective or they undersized the compressor so it's running at 100%. My Range Rover Sport and Volvo XC90 don't sound like that in the Texas heat. Either that or they are not properly insulated.
They probably don't have a fix yet so aren't promising to fix yours. I'm in Texas and...
Ridiculous seeing how poorly some of these are aligned from the factory.
I'd rip the service center a new one if they told me road crowning or because the vehicle is heavy. Totally unacceptable and would drive me crazy.
