Interesting Idea. I know that others had added a trickle charger to the 12v through the OBD or directly to diminish the time that the batttery cycles. I wonder if they could desulphate as well with the battery installed.
I set myself up with 48 amp charging, but I never use it. It is overkill for my daily needs and I charge at 20A which I think is safer for my home generally. If you top off 20- 30% daily your 50 amp service charging at 40 A is likely more than enough even if sharing the charger.
Even though I have a 48A charger I charge at a lower rate. I do this mainly for my home, not for the car. I have a full subpanel in my garage and even though load calcuations are ok I feel that I am less likely to over heat a wire or trip a breaker. I charge to 70% daily at 20A and the car is...
While I have not had a failure of the 12V in almost 2.5 years of ownership I do watch this closely. I have seen no postings about Rivian going to Lithium. Some ownwer have swapped to Ohhmu Lithium but it seems that this has led to issues with warning codes because the charging curve is...
I would totally do the $2500 as a one time expense. If it included the motherboard upgrade, zonal architecture upgrade, enduro/meridian upgrade with nacs and max pack for my Gen 1.
Double visors upfront.

Rivian proprietary version of CarPlay that does everything CarPlay does, but absolutely not CarPlay.
I have a small toolbox that fits in the trailer hitch. Those tools can get me into the frunk as described in the Rivian manual.
Look up trailer hitch toolbox on or search under Rivian at printables.com
Never had to do it yet, though.
I keep a second charged full throttle battery in the Frunk with post adaptors set up and tools to get in and swap it in if my 12V dies unexpectedly on the road . I have never had to do it or use it yet. So far no 12v issues in 2.5 years.
You say replace it each year DIY, can you comment on how...
I had the same thing happen early with my 23 S. Was a quick fix and never happened again. Two year later Rivian swapped both front half shafts for "play". Again an easy fix. Hope you are sorted as well.
I have always plugged in when I get home to (maybe) help the 12V, but to also allow preheating to draw from shore. Based on This "engineering eplained" video : , I charge to 70% daily and in daily use rarely get below 50%. If the battery is a sponge absorbing electrons I try to stress its'...
For me its about the location. Urban (Manhattan) where charging, cost of parking a truck and risk of damage/vandalism is higher we take our older/smaller highlander hybrid. For all else its the "S".
My cost of service has only been tire rotations. I just wanted to point out that out there is a time cost as well. Charging at home and never needing a gas station is a huge time savings ….. a time is money!!
I keep a charged full throttle 12v battery under the floor in my frunk. I keep tools in the trailor hitch to get into the frunk if the car bricks and tools in the frunk to swap the 12v if needed. I have a print out of the ohmmu instructions in the storage bin. I have never had to use it, but I...
Thank you for posting this. I keep a charged full throttle battery with soonish battery posts attached in my frunk. I have just one 12V. I 3d dprinted a safety cover and spacing shim for installation and have tools in the frunk and trailor hitch to swap my 12V if it dies. good to know the hard...
