TLDW (and I even only watched the last ~5min or so)...public reception has been more positive than he was expecting; steer-by-wire is next level; OEM tires are terrible in the snow; feels more solid than any Tesla he's owned/driven before; Rivian still his pick (for now).
Has anyone seen the % split of Model Y RWD vs. AWD? I'd guess that the RWD has a significantly lower take rate, and that'd probably be the same for R2. Most will probably upgrade for ~$5k to AWD (not sure how many will go up to tri-motor).
Really impressed with the R2 reveal...however, would've loved a front row bench seat option (like the Defender) to increase flexibility to 6 passengers without adding a 3rd row. I'm sure the take-rate hasn't been that high on the Defender, so there probably isn't enough market justification for...
In the latest gen it's tucked up underneath the rear spoiler, but for a long time it would just sit below the rear window on the hatch itself (see below--when "on" it wouldn't return to that position on each wipe, it'd stay just above on the glass, and then when you turned it off, it'd move back...
Toyota had a 3% interest in Tesla but sold it off in 2017. For whatever reason, they seem to be very slow to get behind fully electric vehicles (bZ4X...really, that's the best they can do?). Of the electric brands, I could most easily see Lucid ending up with Toyota, and they basically move all...
Unfortunately, doesn't include any formal range testing, but Micah Muzio just posted a review of a performance dual motor max pack R1T. Generally, he was very positive in the review, but seemed suspect that the 400mi range estimate is realistic in the real world. Included some off-road testing.
Certainly from a different time, but back when the Model S was first released, it was an extra $20k to go from the 60kWh pack to the 85kWh one (25kWh for $20k).
I’m probably reading too much into the graphics of the invite, but I’m wondering if they might be indicating a 90 degree rotation of the headlights for the R2…
Admittedly, sample size of 1, but there's a new Tesla supercharger site in Pacific Grove, CA that was installed in early November that hasn't been activated yet supposedly because of transformer/local utility delays.
Looks like the Honda HR-V is experiencing something similar. Honda is saying it’s due to a manufacturing defect that gets amplified with the use of the rear defroster.

Left the Sacramento RAN yesterday with 84%; ran Conserve until Colfax and switched to All-Purpose. Temps were in the high 20s, climate was set at 72. Drove with the flow of the other cars (unfortunately there was traffic all along 80, so not a great read on consumption), and made it to the West...
@hashjoin -- any chance you can be a bit more specific on your Tahoe route? Bay Area to Tahoe is like saying CA to NV :P Considering both South San Jose and Concord can be considered SF Bay Area, and South LT/Truckee/Incline are all Tahoe, a bit more context would be awesome--thanks!
For those debating between Fidelity and XCare, I tried to butt up the exclusions against one another in this GSheet. Overall, XCare did seem to include more exclusions than Fidelity. I particularly didn't like these exclusions:
- Breakdown caused by the failure of any nuts, bolts, or fasteners...
I was able to get much better pricing for my ~2,200mi '23 R1S in CA from Trent Gibson from Highline ( tgibson "at" highline-autos.com). My 120mo/100kmi $250 deductible price was just under $4k. Obviously, your pricing may vary given yours is a year older and has more miles.
Regarding the air...
I'm currently debating between XCare and Fidelity coverage as well. XCare pricing seems to be priced better for higher mileage coverage. Were you able to get any clarity from Fidelity on battery coverage? My impression reading the terms is that Fidelity will cover outright failure/errors of the...
I believe 101 has a 70mph speed limit from ~San Miguel until just before King City, so that may explain some of the behavior. 85mph though...no clue (although I wish that was the speed limit...)
