  1. EV go charger in Harmar PA

I agree - EVgo is deceptive and while the session may have been good the one time I tried them as part of branching out during a trip where I had lots of options and flexibility I was blown away by not only their horrible session fees (they double dipped during my trial when their unit...
  2. Road Trip Planning

The way I manage preconditioning is I’ll put in a nearby DCFC in Rivian Nav that might be near or along the route I’m taking to one that may not be in their map. With the new feature of being able to add stops itā€˜s far easier to manage route mapping and adjust it accordingly based on needs. As...
  3. 4500 mile towing journey - Portland to Tucson and back; with side trips.

I was going to say the same thing. Any car and salt water = very bad. ICE is worse for higher corrosion of even engine and drive train components. EVs for higher risk electrical shorts and fire in addition to general rust and corrosion. Salt water is far more conductive than fresh water...
  4. Selling my R2 reservation

Haha, I was one of them. I was on the eh, don’t need an R2, might get another R1 but then the second ā€œone more thingā€ came out. After I placed my reservation I realized… wait a sec. This is for an R2, not an R3X.??ā€ā™‚ļø
  5. Tesla engineer urges Rivian to move charge port location on R2, R3, R3X for Supercharger access

You must have forgotten the billions that Tesla got while they were trying to scale and scraping by until recently. https://www.businessinsider.com/elon-musk-list-government-subsidies-tesla-billions-spacex-solarcity-2021-12 It was one of the reasons they got into solar. It was another ā€œeasy...
  6. Tesla engineer urges Rivian to move charge port location on R2, R3, R3X for Supercharger access

He also said it is to make curb side charging (city street parking, as in parallel) easier and safer. The R2 and R3 will be more accessible to those in urban centers.
  7. Tesla engineer urges Rivian to move charge port location on R2, R3, R3X for Supercharger access

It’s an optional extra of $1690 just like the powered port door, that’s an extra $640. Oh and if you want 400v fast charging, to increase it to 150kW (since even EA is only 400v, not 800v) that’s an extra $460.
  8. Additional RAN locations on map from R2/R3/R3X reveal event

We really need more RAN. With Tesla pumping their SC and plug, I don’t expect they’ll be the benefit Tesla owners have counted and everyone else is hoping for. Plus they aren’t really geared for large vehicles. Marginally better than EA stalls. The advantage I’ve noticed with RAN is they’re...
  9. Did RJ just say we get access to the Tesla network at the end of this month on the R2 reveal?

Tesla is also making it a requirement of using their SC… you must use only the adapter supplied by your car’s manufacturer or you get from Tesla directly.
  10. āš”ļø Rivian announces: March Tesla Supercharger access & free NACS adapters!

We need more RAN, not only for their great performance and reliability but also for their great placement (site accessibility and geographic location) and for having at least one towing stall. I’ve only ever come across one Tesla Super Charger location that had a towing stall and it was horribly...
  11. āš”ļø Rivian announces: March Tesla Supercharger access & free NACS adapters!

That’s how it works with Ford and you can manage it through the Ford app; you can avoid the Tesla app all together. I would only hope Ford (and Rivian) aren’t required to pass through customer information, although I’m sure if Tesla wanted they could collect all they want by just looking up VINs.
  12. First road trip - range concern / question

That’s because after that first leg, the battery got warmed up gradually by driving at highway speeds and following the first charge it likely jumped to above optimal for charging (charging warms up the battery) which is also it’s happy place for energy discharge, not just for charging.
  13. Rivian survey regarding AA/CarPlay

It’s been nearly a year on this thread - any insight or movement on the CarPlay/AA front? I’m astounded at the number of people that ā€œhateā€ CarPlay - seems to be predominantly from Android users or ex or current Teslarites but to discourage a feature that they would retain the option of not...
  14. āš”ļø Rivian announces: March Tesla Supercharger access & free NACS adapters!

I have been on a number of road trips since my first and only experience with EVgo and since then I have avoided them like the plague. Expensive is an understatement and they offer nothing special or worthy of paying more than 2.5x the going rate of EA or others. That one time I used them they...
  15. āš”ļø Rivian announces: March Tesla Supercharger access & free NACS adapters!

Totally agree with you! I used EVgo once just to try them out and what a massive regret and disappointment. The session started out great but promptly was interrupted after only getting about 10kWhr. I restarted the session - details of that first session were flashed quickly on the dispenser I...
  16. Who’s using EVgo and why - unreasonably expensive

Something I’ve learned is that for EA they sometimes don’t recognize your Pass+ membership for at least a day. I had an issue where for an impromptu trip I signed up the day of the trip and all EA sessions that same day and next day weren’t given the discount. The upside is EA customer support...
  17. Who’s using EVgo and why - unreasonably expensive

Yes that’s true! I almost always see VW ID.4 and Audi clogging them while they charge at ridiculously slow rates to 100%. It’s like their subtle dig/resentment to the EV world for being forced to pay penance for dieselgate.
  18. Who’s using EVgo and why - unreasonably expensive

Cool tip! What’s a little off-putting about setting up an account though is they want your address in the guise of sending you a ā€œmembership cardā€. Why is it most charging networks insist on collecting as much PII as possible? Plus membership ends up meaning you keep an active balance on their...
  19. Who’s using EVgo and why - unreasonably expensive

It’d be a lot easier if Rivian supported CarPlay. Without CarPlay, the way I do it is first I map out a route with Apple Maps and then using the add a stop option search for EV Charger or Fast Charger. It’ll tend to show you all of the options around the destination but when you zoom out to...
