If I am reading this right, Rivian Credit would be calculated by the sum of the applicable amounts:
Base amount: $4K
More than 40KwH: $3.5K
Domestic Assembly: $4.5K (has the Union CBA requirement)
Domestic Content: $0.5K (requires the battery cells to be "manufactured" in the United States)...
Does anyone know if the new EV tax credit language grandfather in prior approved vehicles? If so, this may provide a little more protection for R1T purchasers that get the 2022 model year. But I have no idea.
I agree this is disappointing. I think all of us hoped that the factory switches would be turned on and hundreds of vehicles would be produced this month.
I do wonder if a lot of this delay is really the manifestation of about how complex the vehicle production process truly is. There is a...
Yes. Folks seem to forget that the deliveries will produce revenue which will offset some of the loss. And they have a lot of potential revenue.
Assuming that they have 50K R1? pre-orders (I rounded up) and that the average price of those vehicles is $70K (a conservative estimate), that is...
I don’t know if this was previously posted. But sounds like the R1T is definitely a contender (as most, if not all, of us on this forum believe).

This is my frustration: If you want to do anything remotely fun in the new Ford Maverick, you can’t do it in the base hybrid trim. I think it’s disingenuous for people to trumpet that particular feature as the vehicle’s defining feature when it really doesn’t carry through to other trims, such...
We need less complaining in these forums and more moments like this!
Although I REALLY want to drive the vehicle when I finally get my invite, I think I am going to drop the responsibility on my wife at the last second for two reasons: 1) she can get over being intimidated by the vehicle and 2)...
The thing that makes me a little suspect about the accuracy of this article is that Bloomberg reports it will take two years before fulfilling all the back orders, citing a quote from Scaringe that is a year old. A lot of stuff has happened since then, including another $2.5B infusion...
Again, I’m not saying that they will turn a profit soon. But there are few things that differentiate Rivian from Tesla that I think affect costs and profit margins in Rivians favor over Teslas.
1) Tesla raised about $1B between founding in 2003 and the production off the first customer vehicles...
Right, but with a substantial employee base of 7K+ in the last quarter, a lot of the human capital associated with overhead and production that is needed to eek out 5K vehicles/quarter seems to be in place already. The scale up of servicing, customer support, and additional production...
This is the most interesting thing that I have gleaned: while Rivian is bleeding $300M a quarter, if the average Rivian vehicle sells for $70K, then Rivian only has to sell 4,286 vehicles to break even.
Granted, that isn’t reflective of the raw materials that they need to purchase to assemble...
This may have to do more with limitations with Apple CarPlay. We bought a Hyundai Palisade a few months ago (before Rivian was on the radar). Nice wide screen on the center console. But CarPlay doesn’t take advantage of it because it’s screen is limited to a certain size. Hyundai Santa Cruz has...
