  1. RIVIAN STOCK

Ford has stopped making Lightnings? From https://www.theverge.com/2023/12/11/23997632/ford-f150-lightning-production-reduce-ev-demand, Ford has sold 33K Lightnings so far (out of date; I think it’s 37K) and plans to make 1,600 a week in 2024. That’s 83K per year. Did that plan change since...
  2. RJ's confidence the past few days

Sometimes people read anonymously and only have something to say when momentous news breaks. Regardless, I would focus on the merits of the post and not on attacking the poster. As hominem is standard Tesla cult stuff, and we are better then that!
  3. Now Available: 2024.07.02 Software Update: Tesla Supercharger Access Coming Soon, Navigation Improvements, Room Entry And Exit Enhancements & More

Yes, you can sell the car before it is finished! I see a lot of rookie bugs fixed here, introduced presumably by cheap, junior developers. I don't really want that kind of code in my car.
  4. Rivian Layoff 10% Staff and Lowers Production Forecast for 2024

What did Amazon give up in return for ending the exclusivity agreement? There had to be some concessions. I'll bet it was a reduction in the number of EVS that Amazon is on the hook to buy. If that's true, Amazon won't be buying 100K EDVs from Rivian. And it's a bit suspicious that the initial...
  5. Damn good software architecture as moat

Much Rivian's software is based on Linux, Android and Unreal Engine, the code of which they do not own. They do have a liberal license to use it, however. But other platforms offer licenses that give licensees similar freedom. Those platforms, from Apple and Google, receive billions of dollars...
  6. RIVN going to low single digits before it recovers (if it ever does) ?

If RJ has a controlling share, what’s to gain from going private? He doesn’t have to listen to the board. However, in either case his duty is to the shareholders. Being public at least allows easy access to the secondary offering ATM, and Rivian is going to need a lot of cash.
  7. Rivian Layoff 10% Staff and Lowers Production Forecast for 2024

I’m puzzled by the EDV. Amazon wasn’t buying a lot of them. Then Rivian negotiated an end to the exclusivity agreement and Amazon bought even fewer. Meanwhile, nobody has stepped up to fill the gap. It seems the economics of it are poor, or something. Do we know if it can last for a full eight...
  8. CONCERN: RIVN have enough cash to to go beyond 2025 and launch R2?

Agreed. Now the stock reflects the near-certainty that they will do this. It's just a matter of how much dilution has been priced in. So the stock could well pop after the reveal if Rivian dilutes less than the market expects.
  9. CONCERN: RIVN have enough cash to to go beyond 2025 and launch R2?

This is where I disagree with Rivian's current strategy. They bought the Normal factory for cheap. They could have thriftily used that for all manufacturing and stayed capital efficient. In a downturn, they would be relatively unscathed. Instead, they tried to get "too big to fail" by spending...
  10. CONCERN: RIVN have enough cash to to go beyond 2025 and launch R2?

He should have an answer already. He already cost Rivian a ton of money by selling bonds too late, once interest rates spiked. The company should have already made plans, because hope is not a strategy. Not answering signals to investors that they are in denial or can't plan ahead.
  11. Video: Charging Two Rivians on 200A Service

I'm a big fan of 400A. In addition to EVSEs, induction cooktops have less indoor pollutants than gas, and there are health benefits to saunas (and maybe hot tubs). Heat pumps are amazing too, and it all adds up. Some cities have banned gas for new construction, so even the water heater becomes...
  12. Video: Charging Two Rivians on 200A Service

The video gave me one tidbit, at least: the Tesla solution is lame and requires two circuits and two breakers. Sometimes the panel is full and that extra breaker matters.
  13. Rivian Layoff 10% Staff and Lowers Production Forecast for 2024

Minor trivia: Tesla in 2014 was actually 11 years in from founding, since they were founded in 2003. But, Rivian was founded in 2009, so they're 15 years in! It's interesting that both of these companies spent a long time "existing" before they shipped their products in volume.
  14. Rivian Layoff 10% Staff and Lowers Production Forecast for 2024

Two quick, possibly useless takes: - I'm pretty glad I lease my R1, not own it - The odds of a capital raise and/or slowdown for R2 just increased
  15. Snow Driving Issues

I've also had issues in the snow. I now run 20" Hakka LT3s (which are real winter tires) and they've been better, but one can still lose traction. They're not miracle workers. I would be especially wary of ice, and regen, and downward slopes. Remember, Rivians are much heavier than other SUVs...
  16. Neat new Google Maps features

https://blog.google/products/maps/google-maps-october-2023-update/ It's going to be hard for Rivian's built-in nav. to compete with AI-driven advances like these. Thanks to EV Sportline, I have CarPlay, so I'll get them for free, but most will not be so lucky.
  17. Anyone else waiting on the March/April updates before placing an order/confirming config?

For me, it's about being able to put my phone down and have it charge without looking at it, by feeling for the magnetic attachment. If they can do that, I'll be happy. My case is also too thick to charge via a non-Apple charger, but that might just be flaws in cheap non-Apple chargers I've tried.
