I was listening to Hidden Brain on MTPR last night, a segment entitled "Making the Most of your Mistakes", and it mentions one of the ways Toyota factories are run. I found the whole podcast worthwhile but for the impatient, the Toyota factory part is at about 27:34. It's an interesting short...
We're hoping to take delivery in a few weeks in Bellevue, WA. It's been a long wait, but jazzed to get rolling. We're going to have a long drive home to MT and wondering how many different charging apps and memberships people generally have. Sure would be nice to be able to just swipe a...
I got some widely varying quotes; Progressive was really inexpensive, particularly when using their $500,000 combined single limit liability and $2K deductible. USAA, if you're eligible (I'm not a vet but my father was, and used them), was pricey but I've been told excellent service...
I called the Hartford again this a.m. and asked about an R1S, and they won't do it either. Our son who is in the insurance business said he had heard something about the Hartford "tightening up" what they would insure. Time to switch, obviously.
Interesting. I did call them, and they said they wouldn't insure because the R1T was considered exotic. I wonder if they will do an R1S but not an R1T. I'll call and check.
Interesting. I got T-boned (my fault, I looked before pulling out, but the pedastal between the passenger front and back seat was obscuring an on-coming truck; notorious pullout around here) 4 years ago and totaled a 2009? Subaru Outback. Covered 100%, promptly, been re-insured with a new 2019...
Because I'm an old fart and it was far less expensive than others I looked at at the time, some years ago. Why wouldn't I want to use AARP (the Hartford)
I don't think the person I was talking to actually knew. She said something like "It could be for different reasons, like the vehicle cost too much, or ..." I can't remember exactly. May try again for more info.
Called back, and they said it was considered an exotic vehicle, and they only...
Thanks, my utility (local REA) has a similar program, which is one reason for the original post. I originally thought the wi-fi was for communication with the vehicle, but it appears it is for communication with the utility, which seems stupid -- they should be able to use power-line signaling...
Thanks, I would really like to know how that is wired. On re-reading the J1772 spec I don't think it will work without the PWM handshake, despite the resistor on the proximity pin indicating what the max amperage is.
Thanks, I understand the communicating part, but didn't know about the 48A Rivian limit. But what if there is NO EVSE, only a directly connected plug? The plug itself, in the original J1772 spec, contains a resistor which specifies the max current. That implies no need for any other...
Same question as for pearlrn7 -- How did you get delivery? I'm in Ovando and can't get a delivery because of the distance to a service center. 2020-04-04 R1T order.
I'm wondering about the advantages of the Rivian wall charger vs some other. The main reason I ask is that our electric provider is offering a discounted night charging rate via their installed charger. I haven't asked them yet if they will provide that rate with other chargers, but based on...
Thanks all for your thoughts and experiences.
What was the service for? Was the vehicle undrivable, was the required service something needing immediate attention? Or was it something that could have waited until you were heading that way? What made it hard -- having to leave the vehicle for...
