The 38 lbs Scorpion AS+ 3 sounds like a good choice. Did you also consider the slightly heavier (42 lbs) Michelin Defender LTX M/S? I think the Pirelli is better in terms of comfort while the Michelin probably has the edge in snow traction. I'm wondering which one has the better rolling resistance.
I'm considering fitting the Scorpion AS+ 3 (115H) or the Defender LTX (115T).
The Scorpion is an SUV touring tire whereas the Defender is a highway tire. Hard to tell which one would have the better rolling resistance without actually testing it.
Do you have positive experience with the...
You can get a sense of what 33" all-season tires would look like on 20" wheels from those pictures of an early Rivian R1T prototype. They show a 275/60R20 Pirelli Scorpion Verde tire on a black "staple" wheel.
If you can't find the Nokian, try the X-Ice Snow. Michelin just added the 275/60R20 tire size according to their website.
The R5 and the X-Ice are some of the best winter tires out there.
The best tires for snow & ice tested.
That's odd. My guide told me today that the R1S is "being produced exclusively with the black mountain interior". "We should start producing R1S with the Ocean Coast and Forest Edge Interior closer to the new year."
I live near the Palo Alto, CA Rivian office. There are lots of employee-owned Rivians (mostly R1T's) in the parking lot on any given day.
As much as I personally don't like Launch Green, I realize that colors are a matter of personal taste. Regardless of which color you choose, I strongly...
At the risk of voicing an unpopular opinion, I think Launch Green is the ugliest color offered by Rivian. I say that having seen all the colors in person on multiple occasions in different lighting conditions. I’m guessing most people ordered it sight unseen, just based on pictures, and also...
Is that your Roadster in Los Altos (with my Model S in the background)? Awesome car. I had one reserved in 2008 before switching over to the S.
Same situation here. We have a place in Tahoe and we let our guests charge for free. The cost is negligible.
If Costco insists on your tires being rated up to 130mph (H), as opposed to 118mph (T), you could go with the Pirelli Scorpion AS Plus 3. It's more of a touring tire, whereas the Defender is considered a highway all-season. We have it on our minivan and we're happy with it so far.
The Michelin Defender LTX M/S is a great tire for the Rivian but I would've gone with 275/60R20 as the tire size. It's lighter than the AT tires at 42 lbs (vs 48) and it's the same diameter as the tires on the 21" and 22" wheels. The size that is shown here is LT275/65R20, which at 53 lbs is...
