  1. Apple considering dropping MagSafe?

Android is "less than half" of the phone market? When exactly did that happen? Last time I checked, Android phones had about 75% of the global market.
  2. Launch Edition R2 (Glacier White) filmed on the road -- 3+ min video

Looks small on the road compared to other vehicles. I guess that was the intention, but too bad it isn't a little bigger.
  3. R2 has no rear locker?

Here's a secret most people don't know: Lockers aren't the best thing to have in all off-road situations. Far better is an eLSD that has the ability to fully lock. This is what all off-road vehicles should have over lockers.
  4. Are supercars POINTLESS? Corvette Z06 vs Rivian R1T: DRAG RACE (by Carwow)

No, it was a thing long before EVs. Roll racing became popular to give RWD (or even FWD) vehicles a chance against AWD vehicles. It also be and a thing to better compare pulling power between two RWD cars by taking out traction issues from a dead stop. I've never liked roll racing because it...
  5. Are supercars POINTLESS? Corvette Z06 vs Rivian R1T: DRAG RACE (by Carwow)

Pointless? Hardly. If you want to go fast , that's not the right Corvette. You want a ZR1X, the AWD 1250 HP car that beats a Model S Plaid in drag racing and any other performance contest.
  6. Rivian dropped my truck!

I'm on Rivian's side here. It's a crappy situation for sure, but at the end of the day the vehicle was badly damaged and insurance is going to pay out roughly the value of the vehicle, not the value of a brand new replacement. I remember in 2019 my 2-year-old Jeep was rear ended and totaled...
  7. Rivian dropped my truck!

Honestly, almost never. Most people, including myself, who have worked on cars professionally have never actually witnessed a vehicle fall off a lift. I've only seen it happen in pictures/videos online, never once in real life. But never once in any shop that I've worked. The level of...
  8. As you might have guessed.... higher gas prices has increased interest in EVs [ADMIN WARNING: NO POLITICS]

Yeah, buying any new car just because of rising gas prices rarely makes any sense. But I guess we'll see how high the prices get and how long they'll stay high. Could be a long time, you never know.
  9. As you might have guessed.... higher gas prices has increased interest in EVs [ADMIN WARNING: NO POLITICS]

I agree with what was written in the article. For gas prices to truly have an impact on EV sales, we'd need to see massive and prolonged price increases. What we've seen so far is a few weeks of increases and ultimately about a dollar rise in prices. That's not going to move the needle. Why...
  10. As you might have guessed.... higher gas prices has increased interest in EVs [ADMIN WARNING: NO POLITICS]

Do you really think we'll see a $25k EV that is similarly equipped to a $50k ICEV? Because right now, it's more the opposite. If EVs get to half the price compared to ICEV, then they'd sell like hotcakes. I just don't see that happening.
  11. "I would never want to be stuck waiting for an EV to charge"

I thought 10 gallons per minute was the standard for gas pumps. I know that I fill my 5 gallon gas cans in way less than a minute at my local gas station. I'd say it's probably about 30 seconds or so....which seems to align with the 10 gallon per minute rate.
  12. "I would never want to be stuck waiting for an EV to charge"

Personally, I'd never wait that long to get gas unless I had no other choice. You'd really need a long line of cars in front of you for that kind of wait time. Gas pumps are good for about 10 gallons per minute, so the average car is done in less than 2 minutes. The rest of the 4 minute average...
  13. "I would never want to be stuck waiting for an EV to charge"

And it goes very fast. Average fill time for ICE is about 4 minutes and Costco fills two cars at the same time on each line. I've never waited more than 10 minutes to get gas there.
  14. A good time to own an EV - Gas Prices about to go nuts [LOCKED DUE TO POLITICS]

I think people really don't understand how cheap gas is now, especially when you consider adjusting for inflation. We're spoiled with cheap gas prices.
  15. A good time to own an EV - Gas Prices about to go nuts [LOCKED DUE TO POLITICS]

Gas at the pumps is up about 45 cents here since the War started. And really, it's still cheap overall.
  16. A good time to own an EV - Gas Prices about to go nuts [LOCKED DUE TO POLITICS]

Operation Praying Mantis II can fix rising oil prices in short order. We did it before, we can do it even easier this time. Still though, it's really not that big of a deal. Prices are still reasonable, but people like to hype it up in the news.
  17. If the R2 Launch Edition price is $54,999

The masses don't shop this vehicle segment for performance. Most couldn't care less about high performance in a smallish to midsized SUV. So I don't see that as a selling point when compared to ICE vehicles. That said, I do agree that range is quite important when it comes to EVs, not so much...
  18. R2 Sales of 70,000 in 2026'? What the Magic Number?

Haha...that's funny. No worries, anything posted and/or read on this forum isn't going to make any difference to Rivian's stock price.
  19. Value proposition question - at what distance do you consider your ICE over EV?

This is precisely what keeps me in ICE vehicles. Road trips are just so much easier and so much quicker. The vast majority of my road trips, the idea is to get to my destination, wasting as little time as possible. Less time on the road equals more time enjoying myself at my destination...
  20. Solid-state battery race accelerates

I had QuantumScape stock for a few years and dumped it for a loss last October at around $16/share. Today, it's less than half that. I'm surprised that it hasn't started climbing back up.
