Well said! I completely agree. Bad news like this for ANY EV manufacturer is usually bad news for ALL EV manufacturers.
Folks celebrating this should realize Rivian sells about (or fewer) the same number of R1Ts as Tesla sells Cybertrucks.

Given a minor, low speed ( < 3mph ) collision to my rear side fender cost $18,000 to repair, this R1 repair will be at least $30k or the insurance will consider the truck totaled.
Multi-factor Drive? Maybe, just maybe, this could be ever so slightly useful to fleet customers? Seems rather ridiculous for consumers. Is there a rampant problem of R1 car thefts or car-jackings? Why was this a priority for the software team?
Don't feel too burned. I paid more than $2700 (including tax) back in late 2022 (perhaps early 20023?).
@DCE I wish you had announced you were working on this. I ordered (and eventually purchased) the Rival right after they announced theirs. Doh!
Thanks for taking and sharing these photos. I've added them to my collection. These kind of photos really help me when trying to make some of my own repairs and mods.
