I generally agree. R1 just needs to get Rivian to the higher volume and profit generating R2 and R3 models. After that, the R1 and off-roading vehicles will be just a niche market for Rivian. My guess is that Rivian will leave the small EV off-roading market to the brands like Scout.
Thanks for posting and sharing all this info. Please, please keep us updated. I would only consider switching from the OEM 21" wheels and tires if I was confident I could get something as efficient and quiet.
I spent slightly more than a month with a loaner R1T with 20" OEM wheels and tires...
https://eletric-vehicles.com/rivian/rivian-us-sales-drop-34-in-october-to-3380-units/
Rivian’s U.S. sales fell 34.9% in October, with the electric vehicle maker delivering an estimated 3,380 units, down from 5,195 in September and 5,133 in August — according to data from Motor Intelligence...
Volkswagen's move to simultaneously fund Rivian and Scout (BILLIONS AND BILLIONS for each company) seems odd until you realize that Rivian's future is the R2 and R3 models. The R1 line sales will remain low in numbers by comparison and a market segment that Rivian could easily surrender to...
My slightly meaningless data point: ~28k miles on my first set of OEM 21" wheels/tires. I probably could have safely made it to 30k. I never use Conserve mode, tow occasionally, off-road occasionally, send-it occasionally, etc. In other words, I don't baby the thing.
I've been happy with...

Interesting take, but perhaps Wassym's comment was taken out of context? Or perhaps he's out of "touch" with why so many of us enjoy clicking on buttons?
Yes, this should work. GM is shipping these as an "official" J3400/NACS adapter to some of their EV customers --including me. I got mine today actually.
First time I drove a Rivian was the day I handed over an $80k cashiers check to pay and pickup my R1T in June 2022 --I reserved one in Aug 2021.
To at least see one in person, I visited a First Mile event (aka, Rivian Petting Zoo) a few months before my June 2022 purchase. I also stalked the...
Seems like these Scout vehicles could be as much of a thread to Jeep as they are to Rivian. In fact, I'd say Jeep should be a little more concerned. So far Jeep's attempts at EV drivetrains have been mostly half-@ssed, IMHO.
Is there any confirmation that Scout will even being using the Rivian ZA and ECU software? I've been "scouting" around for any details on this, but have not seen anything official. I suppose it's possible to get these into the vehicles if Scout and Rivian hustle ?‍♀️
A definite direct shot across the bow of Rivian. Rivian better up their execution game. They can't afford anymore snafus like the recent motor parts inventory issue.
