Another case when this would be useful is hitching and unhitching a trailer. I frequently have to get in the truck and move it just a smidgen and get out again to remove a chock, adjust the tongue height, or take the load off of the hitch lock. I sometimes get in and out 2 or 3 times in one...
UPDATE:
I reset my trailer profile before a 300 mile trip this week, and the new results are much more realistic:
The average efficiency is 1.1 mi/kWh. That agrees with 1.09 mi/kWh I calculated from my log.
Rivian now gives a max range of 201 mi; much more realistic than the 404 it had before...
Good question; so I connected the trailer, and the numbers don't change. I'm taking a short trip next week. I'll reset the trailer profile first to see if it gives more realistic numbers.
Can you believe this towing range!? 404 miles at an efficiency of 1.2 miles/kWh! The efficiency is realistic, and agrees with what I calculate (1.17 mi/kWh) from the towing log that I keep. But, to get 404 miles at that efficiency would require a battery capacity of 337 kWh, versus the actual...
In order to lift any single wheel they would have to be able to shift the center of gravity of the vehicle so it was within the triangle formed by the three remaining wheels.
In the TV documentary “Long Way Up” they resorted to tow charging their Rivian R1T support vehicle at least once when they couldn’t make their next charger.
Of course, the manual says:
I agree. It says it can't do it for safety reasons, but by that logic, there should be some kind of lock on the physical buttons, because it is a lot easier to accidentally hit one of the buttons than to accidentally say "hey Rivian, open my window".
This official announcement says nothing about test drives in June. In fact it says “ While we aren’t hitting the road for demo drives just yet, we’re ready to chat about your next great adventure. ”
The Rivian portable charger includes two plugs: NEMA 14-50 and NEMA 5-15. The NEMA 14-50 plug works great when the campground has a 50 amp receptacle. What is the best approach if the campground only has 30 amp receptacles (NEMA TT-30)? Should I use the NEMA 5-15 plug with a 15 to 30 amp...
I started my routes with signal and with an arrival SOC prediction. The prediction blanked out when I lost signal during the drive. If I regained a signal, the prediction resumed.
I charged at the Beaver, Utah RAN today, and it is now my favorite of all charging stations. I was towing a 28' Airstream, and pulled into the southmost charger in the main row. There was plenty of room for my R1T and trailer. Then, I noticed that there is a nice long spot specifically for...
On a couple of recent trips with my Gen 2 R1T, I found that the arrival SOC estimate blanks out whenever the vehicle loses cellular data connection. It happened in Yellowstone NP and again in Death Valley NP. Regions where there is no cellular connection often have few charging options, and I...
A week ago in my gen 2 R1T, the reading lights came on and would not turn off, the driver side on steady, the passenger side flickering. They stayed on while driving and while parked. The touch switches had no effect. A soft reset did not fix them but a hard reset did.
The built-in compressor is great! I just wish the supplied hose were a few feet longer, so it would reach my trailer tires. I built up an extension hose that I can add to the supplied hose to inflate my trailer tires.
Thanks for the great information! How would you describe storage space in the Pebble compared with your 28' Airstream? I currently have a Globetrotter 27FB, and think the Pebble would be a great replacement, but their online info doesn't show the storage very well.
Thanks for this write-up. I am currently towing a 28' Airstream with my R1T, but have been seriously considering the Pebble or Lightship.
You said you tow without a weight distribution hitch. That would certainly simplify hitching and unhitching. But the R1T manual states that you can only...
We just got back from a two-night trip through Yellowstone, starting from northern Utah, in my gen 2 dual-motor R1T with max pack and range wheels. With a little pre-planning, We had no problems with charging and had plenty of range.
First day: drove north from Utah and stopped at the...
