On a couple of recent trips with my Gen 2 R1T, I found that the arrival SOC estimate blanks out whenever the vehicle loses cellular data connection. It happened in Yellowstone NP and again in Death Valley NP. Regions where there is no cellular connection often have few charging options, and I get range anxiety when I can't occasionally verify the arrival SOC estimate.

The map still works without internet, so the vehicle knows the distances, and of course it knows its current SOC. I wonder if it does not store elevation data on-board, or if it refuses to calculate the arrival SOC because it can't update temperature and wind predictions without the internet. I wish it would save the latest data and use it to continue to make arrival SOC estimates. It could even include a disclaimer that the estimates might be less accurate. Still, it would be better than no estimate at all.

I believe it takes wind conditions into account as well, which does require internet access.

I imagine so. I just wish it would use the latest data it had received, rather than doing nothing when it doesn't have current data.

It's always done that. IIRC, if you start the route when you have a signal it will keep working even when you lose reception.

Agreed that it would be nice to see it do what it can. 15 years ago when I was taking EV road trips, I'd take speed, distance and elevation into account and make estimates before starting out, then adjust them on the fly in my head for weather conditions. I was willing to go to that effort then because I didn't have a choice, but since our cars started doing the hard work, I have really gotten used to having the car display its estimate. I would love to be able to rely on that.

I can still monitor its estimate and see how/if it changes as I approach the destination if it's going to be close or if I am curious for some reason.

Another one of our EVs (the Brightdrop) recently had a telecommunications failure, so no internet or GPS. It has Android Auto so I could use my phone...but no SOC estimate that way. It was really nice to get it fixed so I can have my SOC estimates back!

I started my routes with signal and with an arrival SOC prediction. The prediction blanked out when I lost signal during the drive. If I regained a signal, the prediction resumed.

Last time I dealt with the issue was in the fall, and what I remember is that I continued to see the prediction until I did something that caused the navigation to try to access the network - like if I tried to add a waypoint, or I made a detour and caused it to reroute.

Regardless, you still have the battery % on the dashboard.
