  9. Rivian preparing in-house V2H charger

I agree that the existing V2H setups are too expensive when they can be duplicated with a $2,000 inverter. However, batteries are not that cheap yet. About $200-$300/kWh which would make a 40 kWh home battery $8,000 - $ 12,000. If I didn't already have a home battery and inverter, I would go...
  10. Rivian preparing in-house V2H charger

They are probably trying to build a complete proprietary stack from the car to inverters and links to a home, batteries and grid like Ford has done with their very expensive (and flaky) V2x devices. It would be much easier to just make an adapter which follows the standard NEMA protocol to...
  11. Using Portable Charger at Home as Main Charging Method

30 miles in a Rivian takes 15 kWh L1 charging (120v, 12 amps = 1.4 kW) or 10 hours for 15 kWh Not quite 24/7 Just plug in overnight (you do eat and sleep at home, don't you?). Math.
  12. Using Portable Charger at Home as Main Charging Method

You will be fine with L1 charging. (120v) You can easily replace the 30 miles of range you use each day. No need to go to the expense of rewiring. This is actually true for most EV drivers. They don't drive more than 30 or 40 miles a day and 120v L1 charging is just fine.
  13. Rivian preparing in-house V2H charger

Here we go. Just what we need. https://electrek.co/2025/02/21/nema-bidirectional-ev-charging-standard/ NEMA has published its EVSE Power Export Permitting Standard, which defines the technical parameters to allow EV owners to enable bidirectional charging, which allows electricity to flow to...
  14. Rivian preparing in-house V2H charger

There is an unauthorized device for Tesla called Vortipower which connects to the HV battery and outputs 120 V AC at 3.5 kW so it does seem to be possible to hack the protocol. Of course, it would be better to have something authorized and something which would allow direct HV access which would...
  15. Brake pad dust can be more toxic than exhaust emissions

My Tesla one pedal driving works great. I rarely use the brakes. (I live in the mountains.) Probably just a matter of fine tuning to improve Rivian one pedal driving.
  16. Senate Republicans Propose $1000 Tax on Electric Vehicles to Fund Road Repair

People who want an inexpensive EV for $30k care about $1000.
  17. Senate Republicans Propose $1000 Tax on Electric Vehicles to Fund Road Repair

Politicians will target competition for their big donors. I think that is what is going on here. Oil and gas hate EVs so donate to discourage competition. You can thank all of the morons who voted for Republicans... the party of oil and gas.
