it was out of the pure joy of learning something new, and I didn’t save anything, largely because I over-engineered it with a larger battery + other bells and whistles.
So, @logan, I went down a bit of a rabbit hole over the holidays. Instead of buying a JNC jump starter, I thought, “If JNC can do it, why can’t I?” With some spare time (and questionable judgment), I built my own jump starter using an Optima Red Top battery, voltage dial, DC output, trickle...
Zero issues using it in the cold with heated blankets, kettle and griddle. I read somewhere that the minimum discharging temp is -4F. However, for charging, we always charged at cabin temp as these batteries don’t have internal heaters.
Same @Jabbahop - picked up the BLUETTI Elite v2 about a month ago, and it was a total workhorse during our winter camping trip. Good tip from BLUETTI - I charge it on Silent mode too, both at home and in the R1S. When I’m not using it, I keep it stored at around 60% charge.
One of the best modern safety features available. I have these on my other vehicles (with a hack to activate them for use in the US) and really miss having it on my Gen 1.
I can no longer, in good conscience, recommend the Gooloo jump starter - or any lithium jump pack for that matter, including Noco. I encourage you all to read this thread from @logan for more details.
I'm not a battery engineer by any means, but I believe the issue is that lithium jump packs...
Good points. Lithium packs (Noco, Gooloo, etc.) all seem to be the same. From what I have read elsewhere they don’t maintain the voltage past the initial surge . Ultimately, There’s a reason why most folks (not just for Rivians) seem to go with the JNCs as a jump starter.
@logan @JimR1998 @VSG appreciate your insights. Can someone educate me as to why this JNC?

Is better than this gooloo?

Ideally I’d like to have something small, lithium etc. that I can throw in the frunk, but not if it’s not going to show up when...
@ne0phyte @akc5247 guys, just wanted to let you know that your solutions worked incredibly well with minimal effort. Thank you! The cabin is much quieter now. All that’s left is for Rivian mobile service to fix the passenger window not fully closing, and then I’ll have a soundproof cabin to...
My main goal with the jump starter is to provide enough power to the 12V battery to unlock the doors, activate the screens, open the charge port, and initiate high-voltage charging - ultimately enabling the car to be driven. The idea of a 12V drop-in sounds intriguing as well, and I’d love to...
Compiled this from my general experiences, this forum, Reddit, YouTube videos, etc., focusing on handling a dead 12V battery, flat tires, and various scenarios (e.g. no/lost jack pucks). Here's what I have:
Gooloo GT4000 Jump Starter: this thing is a beast, good for cold climates (GT4000s is...
Just wanted to give you guys some personal feedback on Time-of-Use (TOU) electricity rates. ConEd-New York has 3 different rates for EV owners:
Standard Rate: 15.112 cents per kWh at all times throughout the year.
Standard Rate with Smartcharge-NY Rebates: Offers rebates based on EV charging...
You’re absolutely right. My rims are slightly lighter than the OEM 22s, weighing in at 32 lbs each. I opted for the Kaos 22s, and the combination of a lighter but larger wheel with the Michelin MS2/115H seems to be the sweet spot for me on NY roads.
