  1. Vampire drain - I'm seeing a pattern...

Guys, I apologize - I previewed my post and the image I inserted had been attached, but then it vanished!! The meaning of my post was all but blown away by the lack of the image... Here goes with an an attempt to restore:
  2. Vampire drain - I'm seeing a pattern...

Guys, there are TONS of old threads on 12V battery drain... I was hoping that this thread might not get buried in 'same old' repeats rather than yielding 'new ideas'! I believe this is called hijacking? ? I'm looking for reasons the VD has a pattern, which looks too incremental for random 12V...
  3. Vampire drain - I'm seeing a pattern...

I've been doing the 12V charging on a regular cycle, and sometimes this gives me a few days of zero VD loss, but then the cycle continues. This said, I can't see a logical connection between 12V charge demand and very precise power drain from the big battery, can you? And the magnitude of VD...
  4. Vampire drain - I'm seeing a pattern...

I have read a lot of posts on VD, and I too am seeing up to 5kWh per day loss from my Gen. 2 R1T. But today I happened to notice that there has been a pattern to the exact amounts of loss per sleep cycle - despite total amount of loss per cycle the losses are always multiples of 0.22 kWh (though...
  5. New Bill in Senate to Kill EV Tax Credit + $1000 tax on every new EV

Times change. Paying any kind of tax to support destroying the planet and hurting future generations was never good policy, so why support it? If there is to be a replacement, then IMO it should be LESS money for clean vehicles, and MORE for carbon burners. (not a political statement, but my...
  6. R1T Tailgate Bolt

If I'm understanding Riviot's nice sketches, then you just need a regular M8 bolt of the correct length, and an 8mm long spacer with an ID of 8mm and an OD of 12.5mm (close to these diameters might work fine). Thanks for this 'reminder' for us reading this to put Loctite on these threads! I'd...
  7. The Verge - ChargePoint is doing something about all the EV charger cable-cutting crooks

Hmmm, how much of this theft is vandalism? Because as far as the theft for sale goes, I'd say that if the steel reinforcing is integrated (difficult to separate from the copper) then only criminal minded people are going to purchase this cable from thieves...
  8. What are these wires in right side compartment of hitch?

As far as amperage to charge from the pigtails, this is not for topping up the 12V battery, you're correct that it's to recover from a totally dead one. I use a Nexpeak NC201 but for trickle charging pretty much anything is OK, but a smart charger is the better choice. On the no voltage detected...
  9. What are these wires in right side compartment of hitch?

Yes, I too was surprised to find those terminals on my Gen 2 R1T as well! At least they were prudent enough to make them different lengths, but still.. I had to access those to trickle charge the 12V battery (per a very good thread on vampire drain..) and that solved my VD issue.
  10. Does anyone have any updated intel on Rivian V2H status?

Interesting... Would your contact be comfortable letting us know if the progress is determined by Rivian or bureaucracy?
  11. Does anyone have any updated intel on Rivian V2H status?

Hi, we have a Gen 2 R1T with the max pack battery, which we got for two reasons; transport and power for when the sun isn't providing via our solar array. We do have 10Kwh of backup battery in the house, but would really like to have access to that huge Rivian battery too. I searched for...
  12. VW ID.Buzz Released

We were gung ho for the Buzz when we saw the initial renderings, it was 110% what we needed; large cargo area if easy to remove seats were taken out (like our Honda Element), and good looks. That's all we wanted. Then they started enshittifying the design with a plush, less practical and...
  13. So much for the heated radar (gen 2) - EDIT: IT WORKS!

Rainex (or similar) might be worth a try.. I've used it for years on the windshield and it definitely weakens the bond between frost and ice and the glass.
  14. Gen 1 Vampire Drain (Possibly) Solved (or Hacked)

Thanks Aldo, I had read your thread (and many more) but had not seen any clear claim that the unhealthy 12V battery issue was redeemable.. I could have missed this in the sheer volume of reading! I'll be keeping a watch on VD magnitude, and will charge the 12V battery if I see it increasing...
  15. Gen 1 Vampire Drain (Possibly) Solved (or Hacked)

As promised I am reporting back on this busy post! I initially chimed in because the VD level I was seeing (in a near new R1T Gen 2) was crazy high, confirmed by the electraFi app. So I tested using a trickle charge to the Gen 2 12V positive access in the frunk, and chassis ground, using a 1000...
  16. Protect Your Rivian Rear!! DIY rear bumper protector

I'll offer a simple explanation of what to expect for those thinking "any impact will bend the frame". Energy in is reacted by the entire system impacted, and both vehicles will deform in that kinetic energy dissipation. Some facts; the hitch being discussed has a rubber bumper and the tires on...
  17. Gen 1 Vampire Drain (Possibly) Solved (or Hacked)

Thanks tjrivian, I've signed up for the electrafi (I was wondering how people had accessed that data!) and will start tracking right now. To answer your other question, both phones were 1500 miles away, but the cameras were left on for security purposes - the Rivian is on the driveway.
  18. Trick for Maintaining health of the 12V Battery

New to these VD threads, but a question (maybe a suggestion?): Since this group has discovered a groundbreaking shortcoming in the Rivian design, and desire something to be done for us by Rivian, maybe we should actively lobby for action via a petition? It seems to me (a mech eng, not a sparky!)...
  19. Gen 1 Vampire Drain (Possibly) Solved (or Hacked)

I suspect that if you charge both the 12V and the drive battery you won't see any difference, since while plugged into your Juicebox there will be no VD for the power station to prevent...?
