Why so hostile? I’ve been driving an EV since 2015 FWIW (and not all Tesla’s), and I know EA/ChargePoint/EVGo/etc aren’t as far along in areas I frequent as Tesla is, but it should be good enough. I expect it’ll take years for Rivian’s charging network to catch up.
I once had to wait about 3 minutes for a charger to become available in Tumwater, WA. It was a 250 kW charger though so my total charging time required to get home was less than 10 minutes. There is nothing good to eat at that stop though. :whew:
I expect the Rivian to be a bit more of...
When it’s so cold you need a block heater, I’m not sure 110v is going to do much more than keep your battery management system running unfortunately.
If your Rivian is plugged in while it’s sitting in your driveway you will top off the phantom drain and likely at WAY less than $0.31/kW though. My electricity rates are between $0.099/kW and $0.1326/kW, for example, which comes out to less than $20/300 miles.
I was most certainly not suggesting the R1T/S will be more efficient than the Taycan. I was only commenting that applauding Porsche for beating clearly sandbagged numbers is silly.
The Taycan isn’t horribly inefficient for sure. It sure looks like Lucid might hold the crown though.
The Taycan does great vs. the EPA range but less great when you consider the fact it’s a 93.4 kW pack. I don’t mind their approach, but they look good mostly because they set really low expectations.
They fired her right before she hit 1 year. Traditionally, equity options granted for new hires at tech companies have a 1-year cliff and then vest in equal increments monthly through your first 4 years at the company. As a result, she might not have gotten ANY equity. I suspect it's more about...
Its growth and product diversity in the eyes of investors. The Amazon van is their least niche product. There are many many companies that need last mile delivery vans, they are used heavily and replaced often in many cases. The Amazon deal was a way to have a partner help with the development cost.
The industry has trained you into that response because most legacy automakers are absolutely terrible at building and maintaining software. It doesn’t have to be that way and it’s one of the potential benefits of the Rivian/Tesla style vertical integration and continuous improvement styles of...
I've got a Rivian Blue LE R1S w/ 22's slated for delivery in March->April in Seattle. We have a service center in Bellevue (about 15 miles from my house in Seattle) so that shouldn't be a blocker. Probably the biggest point of potential trouble for me is that it is unclear if they have built...
I'm curious as well. I think Electrify America alone has at least 20 CCS plugs between Seattle and Portland and Chargepoint has a bunch too. I worry more about going east into the mountains personally... There are 3 CSS chargers in Monore and only a couple in Leavenworth and a lot of fun places...
A good question. I also need wonder if the EVGo or EA chargers share circuits like V1/2 SuperChargers do? I still pretty frequently have to explain how that works to Tesla drivers.
A timely post:
"We’ve done 900+ miles, IL, Iowa, Nebraska and this morning Colorado. We haven’t had a problem finding chargers. Walmart/Electrify America are all along the route. This is the first EVgo we’ve used and we are pulling 172 kw right now."
True:) I should add my Tacoma is a 2002 with the TRD Off Road package and AT tires. The 3 long throw shifts of the manual transmission required to get to 60 alone take more than 3 seconds;)
FWIW, I didn’t feel any sluggishness off the line in my test drive in Seattle. It was a rain free day and the acceleration felt pretty linear to me. It’s definitely way heavier than my Tesla but felt as quick or quicker in a straight line. It feels like an absolute rocket ship compared to my old...
I don’t believe there is a non-hardwired option that meets residential code in most places in the states that does over 50 amps. You can, however, still remove the charger and leave a junction box behind that terminates the circuit if you want to take the charger with you.
