Have you driven a Tesla? It doesn't have the birdseye view either but it does have a camera view that appears similar to what was shown in one of the Rivian review videos where you can see side-view cameras and rearview camera. The Tesla system is quite effective for parking close to curbs, etc.
You think they won't do it because of COVID restrictions? I think they are basically the same here as they are in San Francisco (or at least will be after 10/25). I'd be perfectly happy for them to pick me up and home for a ride though... or just deliver my vehicle;)
Has anyone stumbled on a Forrest Edge interior on a Rivian Blue truck? My gut is that wouldn’t look great, but I’d love to see it before I lock in Black Mountain.
I don't want to say all your opinions are wrong but... Blue is definitely the color. :CWL:
The thing I am having odd second thoughts on is the interior color... I thought black was the only option for me with the blue exterior but now that I've seen the green interior in all these videos... I'm...
The only thing I find somewhat disingenuous is the comparison to the Ford base price fleet vehicle. The XLT starts at $53,000 with the smaller battery and the pricing goes all the way into the $90k range for the top trim in 300 mile range.
I'd guess it's much more about control of the experience than the data. But I can understand your skepticism of the tech industry:)
Ceding control of the user experience for key functionality is a tough call. Traditional automakers have kind of always done it that way so they are used to it.
Not for nothing.. I worked on Alexa for a spell and that is not quite how it works:)
You do have to link to Apple Music, but it is a service integration from your Alexa account -> Apple / Spotify, etc. It doesn't use your phone for anything.
I too have never missed Android Auto or CarPlay in my Tesla. From a UX perspective, I suspect part of the issue here is AA and CP aren't actually well suited to these larger displays or cars that blend UX across displays (nav turn by turn being on the display in front of the driver while the map...
100%. Looking at the Taycan Turbo S and comparing it to the Tesla Model S Plaid and the Lucid Air Dream Edition Performance is a head-scratcher. I know Porsche purposely took a very conservative evaluation and many owners see really significantly better results but I still think it shows that...
When I preordered the R1S on day one back in 2018 my thinking was that’d I’d either get it, or get a refund and buy a Model X, which I assumed would see a tech stack update by the time the R1S actually shipped.
Now that we are getting close, I’m all in on the R1S LE. Our gear needs for camping...
It shouldn't be. Purchases that aren't used inside the app don't have to pay the fee is generally the posture I've seen. For example, I can buy a game for my PlayStation in the PS App on iOS and I'm quite certain Sony isn't doing a revenue share with Apple on it.
As somebody who has managed applications for multiple companies, this doesn't concern me. Providing the app is submitted to Apple and Google (which I'm very sure it is), app developers can light up the store in a few minutes by clicking a button.
Both platforms allow you to deploy apps to...
That is interesting. I've been driving EVs since 2015 and I'd be careful to quote the 20-40% over EPA range as the expectation for everyone. Living in Seattle with our hills, mountains, and weather you almost certainly won't see that. None of my EV's have. Folks living in warmer climates and...
Now that we know the range information, I'm more strongly considering the 21" wheels despite the fact I don't love how they look. Club Rivian on Instagram caught a covered R1T that had the 21" wheels on it without the aero inserts so I asked customer service this morning if the inserts were...
Totally. They could switch to LG made 2170 cylindrical cells probably relatively quickly with validation testing (Tesla has at least CATL and Panasonic supply cells for example). They’d have to ground up build a whole new battery and potentially other associated systems to migrate to pouch cells.
I took a screengrab of the Motortrend video when the driver was cycling through the charging screen.
This was a pre-production truck with AT tires on it. The three pre-set charging levels show ranges of 301 miles, 252 miles, and 200 miles which I assume are roughly equal to 100% charged, 84%...
While it's really unlikely, it could be they are using different battery chemistry that is less susceptible to damage when fully charge. Tesla, for example, says it's ok to always charge to 100% on their LFP chemistry Model 3's (which are only manufactured in China for the SR+ cars so far).
For what it's worth, I happened to ask Rivian Customer Service a question and they told me to expect to hear from my guide officially "by mid-end of November."
I'm an R1S LE pre-order customer (in the first 600 or so total pre-orders on day 1) who lives in Seattle relatively close to the...
