Tesla has seen this within their own company as Model 3 sales cannibalized Model S sales and Model Y sales cannibalized Model X sales. There were a lot of people willing to stretch their budget to get an EV in those categories when the 3 and Y didn't exist. Now that they don't need to do that...
They're not false. GM started in 2016 lobbying against SB3 in Connecticut. They continued throughout 2017. Then they tried to do the same in Michigan, which is what this topic is about.
GM's lobbying against direct sales is on the record. I'm not making it up.
Unrelated heads up, in...
I will have to respectfully disagree on this. A tabless battery is a pretty big deal, and their cathode plant is as well. Structural packs are a clever solution to reducing wasted space in existing packs.
I've been to a number of Tesla events in person, and while I watched this one remotely, I...
Today's Tesla Battery Day event was impressive. They introduced a number of things - the large 4680 cells, tabless cells, structural pack design, elimination of cobalt, etc. The roadmap was to a > 50% decrease in cost per kWh in their battery packs, and it was specifically outlined as a case for...
I've always defined it similarly, but once when discussing how a Tesla update made their existing products "obsolete," I pushed back and was educated on the fact that a secondary definition is "of a kind or style no longer current."
I agree with you overall. Knobs aren't obsolete (by our...
I like how the promo photos on the webpage show a Tesla Model X (towing capacity 5000 lbs) parked next to the camper. Clearly that showed up after the F350 drove off.
Just a follow-up, it appears the Design Studio for Model X opened for me in mid-November of 2015. I received my X in early April of 2016, so approximately 4 and a half months ahead of my delivery.
If I were trying to be deceitful, it seems like building a misleading configurator would be the easiest thing to do. Scams usually work on customer-facing polish and shine, and a configurator is really just software, especially if you don't care to back it up with anything.
My feeling is that...
There's your answer, then. When towing with my X, I don't exceed 60 on the highway or my consumption skyrockets. Remember that air resistance increases at the square of speed. It's a trade-off between range and time on the road. Even 5 mph makes a big difference.
This fight has been going on forever with Tesla as well. It reeks of GM's influence, as they have been behind the vast majority of these bills nationwide. I'm not a Michigan resident, but definitely agree that anyone who is should call their representatives ASAP and get on the record opposing...
My guess is you'll be well within the limits with a 27ft Airstream. Those run in the ~7700lb range with tongue weights around 750-800lbs. Since payload is 11,000lbs, it would be reasonable to have a tongue weight limit around 1,100lbs, otherwise one would have to tow a poorly balanced load.
I am wondering how effective this type of fridge will be in an enclosed space like that, whether it fits or not. The fridge will heat the frunk, and if the frunk cannot dissipate that heat, the refrigerator will become less and less effective. I have one that we keep in the back of our Model X...
In addition to what @jjwolf120 said above (which I agree with), if they are using an air source heat pump for cooling, it gets derated at higher elevations. For instance, at 5000 feet above sea level, an air source heat pump has a correction factor of 0.83, meaning it's only 83% as effective...
I found this quote from the blog post informative:
"We generally see about a 50% reduction in range when towing at full capacity."
At full capacity, and with a box test trailer, that's pretty reasonable. I see about the same with my Model X and 4500 lbs but with a narrower, radius-edged Airstream.
Redwood Materials has a pretty bold goal, which is to effectively cut the cost of battery materials in half compared to mining. WSJ recently had a piece on them.
From an environmental and economic perspective, this is a really important piece of the puzzle that is currently missing. I'm...
Also remember that to date, DCFC should be used on an only-as-needed basis, as it does degrade the batteries more than slower charging. This, despite what Tesla advised early on. We have seen that older Tesla packs have been getting capped DCFC rates to preserve the packs through Tesla's...
My understanding is that your assumption is correct. You are charged based on capability, not on taper consumption. I've read a few posts elsewhere complaining about this.
This could put a damper on my enthusiasm for an R1T. I plan to tow with it, so consumption will be high and charging could...
I refused to wire the funds to Tesla in advance, and brought a personal check to delivery for both vehicles. They accepted that in 2014 and 2016; policies may have changed since then.
Regarding the R1T having a somewhat "luxurious" interior and that being incompatible with adventure seeking, I...
