  1. Efficiency test: mounting ski box over R1T bed vs. on the roof

Just watched that with my 14 year old son on the weekend - he found the whole thing funny, including the credits!
  2. Launch Mode coming to Gen1 + Apple Watch support w/ active entry (both coming early 2026) -- confirmed by Wassym

Anyone know what he means by the Apple Watch support? I get that it won't be UWB, but will it utilize a different technique than the current PAAK system (ie Bluetooth antennas and complicated hand shakes) and therefore possibly be more reliable? (BTW: I have figured out the quirks on my...
  3. Efficiency test: mounting ski box over R1T bed vs. on the roof

Ha looks very similar! My box is a bit wider than yours, but the rear-view is still fine with it mounted near the side. For those mentioning flags etc, it is well within the limit allowed without a flag in BC.
  4. Efficiency test: mounting ski box over R1T bed vs. on the roof

Hey friends, after running my ski box on my roof for my first winter with the truck ('23/24), in December '24 I tested mounting the ski box over the truck bed instead. Result: I found it reduced the range impact by 1/2 as compared to mounting it on the roof. Cost wise - the parts to modify my...
  5. R2 has Lidar!!!! First look at windshield notch location on R2 (with R2D2 wrap)

I don't expect they will announce it for R1, but it looks fairly simple to integrate both the LiDAR and updated radars to R1. I'd expect to see it about the same time as R2 Gen3 hardware.
  6. Rivian Autonomy & AI Day! Lidar, Hands-Free Driving, Rivian Assistant & more announced

If the Gen3 R2 actually plays out to personal L4, I'll happily replace my 2018 Model 3 and retire my R1 from daily commuter to weekend adventure and towing duties. Getting 2 hours of my day back would be fantastic! Most of my computer hobbies/entertainment stuff I do in the evening could be done...
  7. Rivian is building its own AI assistant?

This text integration looks substantially better than what I have in my 2018 Model 3. I understand now why it took so long, though a part of me wishes they did have a basic version years ago as filler. Glad it is coming to Gen 1's as well :)
  8. Cannonball Run EV record attempt in a modified R1T

If the spacing of suitable chargers works out, I suspect they would have gone as fast as reasonably possible and run SOC down to ~10-15%, and only charged up to about 60-65%, keeping the SOC envelope there should yield >400kW avg charging, spending about 20-25 mins per stop (assuming they were...
  9. Motor failure message

They said something similar for me at first, but escalated it quickly once I'd seen it a few times.
  10. Thanksgiving trip around Capitol Reef

Luckily we saw part of that area in March before ICE etc really got going. We won’t be back until then either.
  11. Tesla Model Y. Rivian One Pedal Driving wins - hands down.

I'll counter your anecdote with my own, my 2018 Model 3 SUCKS in so many ways (including UI [excepting texting!]) compared to my R1T, particularly in the body corrosion department - this thing looks worse at 7 years old than my 15 year old Subaru Loyale when I was in my 20's.
  12. Discount Tire no longer raising all 4 tires due to safety concerns?

Does DT not have lifts? I go to Midas locally and they just use a lift and get the whole truck off the ground.
  13. R2 prototypes spotted in Moab, charging at Tesla supercharger

Thanks for those numbers. Wonder why they did this? One of the things I like about our R1's is the higher voltage for a "400V" pack. More kW on amperage constrained chargers (which is mostly what I find in the wild).
  14. Rivian to lay off 600+ workers / 4% workforce (Oct 23, 2025 report)

I view this as allowing more space for R2 to get established.
  15. Review: I rode the ALSO TM-B E-Bike: Rivian Micromobility Startup’s First EV

I feel similarly, although my cargo bike no longer carries small humans (mine are now 14 and 16), so the shorter length of the cargo set-up is less of a potential hinderance for me. The ALSO solves a few pain points I have with my current bike, and others I didn't know I had: - I have a beefy...
  16. GM killed Brightdrop - hopefully helps RCV

GM appears to have killed off the Brightdrop EV van. While I'm sad the production has closed at the Ontario plant (I'm Canadian after all), the silver lining might be that Rivian picks up any customers who were considering the GM van...
  17. Need help fixing range while towing (it’s 30% 😵)

For #1, this is a limitation of how Rivian currently calculates 100% range on that screen. Rather than using the data it accumulates on each trailer, it largely generates this range value based on the estimated weight of the trailer. I've towed 10,000km with my Airstream 20FB and it displays an...
  18. cracked roof glass - repair or wait? long drive to SC...

Unfortunately for me the closest glass shop is in the same metro area.
  19. cracked roof glass - repair or wait? long drive to SC...

You are on the same side of the divide as my 1 year younger brother! I had a full licence at 16 years plus a few months, he was 18!
  20. R1T Dead Last in EV Pickup Sales

Given that that R1T belongs to a platform that includes the R1S, and AFAIK, the others don't really (aside from the Hummer), I include the R1S in the count, which from a linked article on the vans earlier in the thread, Cox Automotive placed at ~8,000 in Q3. That puts the platform at the top of...
