Imagine going back in time and telling the Steve's when they made the Apple I that in 50 years their company would be making watches, phones, and cars. What a world! I've been an Apple user since my grandpa bought my brother and me an Apple //e in '83. Can't wait to see what they do.
Whatever we think of the valuation, Rivian now has the cash to build a couple factories and develop lower cost products. They are following the Tesla playbook in that sense. Expensive vehicles coming out of one factory...build factories and introduce lower cost vehicles...build out a charging...
Don't forget that the price target was raised twice in the days preceding the IPO. It went from 58-62 to 68-72 to 78. So demand was increasing even before trading commenced.
Noob question here but how much does the curb weight need to be considered when driving on dirt/gravel roads or going over small bridges over creeks, etc> Light off-roading, basically. The R1S will already be 2 ½ tons. Max pack even more. Is this going to be something that I routinely have to...
I think based on the floor mat design in the gear shop, the 3rd row is likely to have extremely limited legroom. I'm thinking those cutouts accommodate the mounts for the 2nd row, leaving about 1.3rd the legroom of the 2nd row.
More or less the same. I've been driving my Prius for 15 years and when I showed her what I was interested in (R1S), she encouraged me to make the deposit. When I mentioned our eligibility and my interest in the IPO, she was 100% for it.
My hot armchair take is that valuations are a reflection of what the market thinks that company can do in the future. Rivian has proven they can raise capital and design and deliver products. I see many tailwinds at their back - gov'ts phasing out ICE cars, the proven market demand of luxury and...
The board should so whatever is in the best interest of Rivian shareholders. Right now that's Amazon, Ford, RJ & some insiders, and some angel investors, but none of us.
Thanks for the post and sparking this conversation, @Erik!
My R1S will be a daily driver around Chicago with a handful of trips a year to northern Michigan, about 350 miles one way. I'm curious about the R1S max pack...what will its range be, vehicle curb weight, price, etc. I'll consider it...
OFFTOPIC:
I really wish these pedestrian and other vehicle animations would go away, and be replaced by something more static, like an icon that represents "pedestrians ahead". None of the implementations of these visualizations I've seen (this or Tesla's) have been very good, and I'm not sure...
