  1. First 1800 Miles Towing Airstream with R1T

Bernard, I also waited a LONG time for my R1T. I think that you will be delighted when yours finally arrives. Safe travels and great adventures!
  2. First 1800 Miles Towing Airstream with R1T

Good question. Backup plans are crucial. As I posted previously, there is no spare fuel can in the R1T. My planning includes: 1. A good route planning app. I’ve used inRoute for many years and prefer it above all others. I enter my destination, then search for EV chargers along my route...
  3. First 1800 Miles Towing Airstream with R1T

Thanks for that suggestion. That one was fully booked months ago, and a long way back to another charging opportunity. We’re at Stillwell Ranch Store and RV Park just 15 min. from the Persimmon Gap entrance. It’s rustic but full hookup and allows me to charge on NEMA-50 for an additional...
  4. First 1800 Miles Towing Airstream with R1T

It worked fine and was as fast as an EA Hyper.. Of course I had to add another app to my ever expanding portfolio. The location was new and very nice right at a Road Ranger travel center with food etc. and a clean fenced dig park.
  5. First 1800 Miles Towing Airstream with R1T

We’re now at 2700 miles, and the trip has continued without difficulty- until today. Bravely venturing beyond fast charging stations, Ft Stockton, TX to Big Bend NP, we planned to stay at Stilwell Ranch Store and RV Park where we could charge at our campsite between trips into the National...
  6. First 1800 Miles Towing Airstream with R1T

Good points. This being a winter trip, with less crowded campgrounds and no need for aircon, I’ve used the NEMA 14-50 to charge the truck at 32 A, and run the Airstream on the 30A outlet. Winter stopovers are long, so even 8 mi/hr gain is significant.
  7. First 1800 Miles Towing Airstream with R1T

Coolio2000, I’ve never used big mud flaps, even on my RAM 2500. After this summer’s 11000 mile trip thru British Columbia, Yukon and Alaska, I wear the dings in my Airstream Rock Guards with pride. I should think that the Rivian would really feel the drag of Rock Tamers. I am impressed by the...
  8. First 1800 Miles Towing Airstream with R1T

I use an Equalizer 10K WDH.
  9. First 1800 Miles Towing Airstream with R1T

A TT30 adapter is needed to connect your NEMA-50 charger connector to the pedestal 30 amp socket. I have had to dial down charging amperage to 24 amps at some pedestals with old breakers. You can also connect to the NEMA-50 directly for much faster charging. The 20A 120 V will be painfully slow.
  10. First 1800 Miles Towing Airstream with R1T

Our RAM 2500 Cummins turbo diesel yields an avg. 12 mpg towing this 28’ Airstream, varying considerably with environmental conditions. Range is thus about 400 miles (600+ without trailer). We’ve only had to unhitch once at a charger, knock on aluminum. Hanging out in the Airstream, whether...
  11. Charge port door not opening

Mine was experiencing the opposite- not closing completely. Rivian service suggested rebooting the vehicle. I was skeptical, but it worked!
  12. Undriveable at night in wet snow due to LED headlights not melting snow & ice

For lack of a better solution, I’ve been using Rain X windshield cleaner on the lenses, which seems to help.
  13. R1T conquers Moreeb Dune in UAE

Having taken that dune myself, with a professional driver in a Land Cruiser, I am truly impressed by the R1T.
  14. First 1800 Miles Towing Airstream with R1T

On a simple flat straight road, simple calculations might be fine. We’ve had freezing temps, mountains, strong headwinds… all conditions that affect the efficiency of any vehicle. My efficiency has ranged from 1.3 miles/kWh to 0.9 miles/kWh. I respect a real time recalculation by the vehicle...
  15. First 1800 Miles Towing Airstream with R1T

Normally 65 mph. Traffic may move faster on the interstate, but I’m always conscious of that 7500 lbs behind me that I may have to bring to a stop quickly.
  16. Winter towing PNW to SoCal any advice or suggestions

Go for it! See my recent post on our current towing adventure. As far as charging at RV Parks, I’ve found that most haven’t thought through it. KOA flatly prohibits charging, with a ridiculous bulletin full of misinformation. We’ve charged at commercial parks, State and City/County Parks...
  17. First 1800 Miles Towing Airstream with R1T

Indeed, and our Airstream is fairly aerodynamic, as trailers go. Both of us getting 1.1 with my 7500 lbs vs your 5000 lbs is pretty good evidence. I don’t challenge your numbers, but have found the range estimates by the vehicle computer to be surprisingly accurate. If depart with 100% SOC...
  18. First 1800 Miles Towing Airstream with R1T

The RAN in San Antonio was about $0.34 / kWh, while most EA or ultium (Pilot) stations were about $0.63 ($0.42 with my EA Pass + (definitely worth $7/ month ). The only one based on time was EA in Gulfport MS at $0.29/min.
  19. First 1800 Miles Towing Airstream with R1T
