Most 50A RV chargers will melt if you try to pull a constant draw to charge your EV. Last time I used one I needed to ramp down to 24A before the plug felt cool enough that I wasn't concerned with ruining the equipment or starting a fire...
If you were going fast, it may have just been lack of traction due to lack of ground contact... airing down will definitely help with that. I know there were some gen2 suspension changes, but I don't think the recent updates had anything for gen1
If you're using the Rivian mobile charger, they're only 32A chargers, even though they have a 14-50 plug. So, that's somewhat to be expected.
Also, if you're plugged into an RV pedestal, watch for overheating those plugs, even at 32A on a 50A breaker, they're not designed for continuous load...
I put them onto my map and I'll take a look. Any reason you think they're in these two locations?
Looks like the Prudhoe Bay Hotel (and most of the overnight spots) have block heaters... it'd be pretty slow, but you might get 110v charge off that?
Yeah, I realized what you were saying later and updated my response, but we have plans in Coldfoot, which prompted this trip. But, I do want to try the Dempster hwy in an EV at some point! looks prettier, and more chargers!
I would love to, but can't take the time. It's already an 18 day trip with lots of driving.
Oh, I see, up to the Arctic Sea. We have needs to get to Coldfoot, prompting this trip, but Dempster does look more doable for an EV, for sure!
How Fun! We're doing a Prudhoe Bay trip with the kids this summer, but unfortunately don't think we could make it with the truck, so we're renting a camper van in Anchorage.
Thanks for the photos! Best of luck!
It's probably not much more than zero, but if you don't want to replace, but you just want to disable, you MIGHT be able to unplug the OEM coils. on Gen1 this shouldn't be an issue, on Gen2, (I don't remember exactly how they're plugged) but if it removes power from the NFC reader it'll cause...
This looks like a really fun and detailed writeup of your mods! I hope to follow along more of these!
Are you concerned with the placement of the switch pro that it'll affect your fording depth? Is it as 'water-proof' as the rest of the electronics up in there?
I have a Gen1 R1T, topocharge system, and android phone. On one phone I use a mous.co magsafe case for my Galaxy S23, and a little ring adapter for my work phone (S21). The mous.co case works better, but they both work just fine. the topocharge is a phenomenal upgrade from the onboard phone...
They're probably overpriced, but I like the magsafe cases from mous.co for my Android phones. They work well, and really snap onto this charger well. I also have just a stick-on metal magsafe adapter ring on another of my phones and it works too. Not quite as satisfying of a lock in, but...
It's probably not strong enough, but, it's a nice concept for something I would like, because if you have a load of dirt (or some other loose material) in a tarp in the bed, and you want to close a manual tonneau, you have to open the bed. (which dumps all the stuff out, making it tough to get...
Or you go off-grid camping and fast charging isn't necessary, or you use it for your jobsite where it sits and runs an office for a few days, or...
Just because you don't see a use for it in your current lifestyle doesn't mean there isn't a valid use...
I don't disagree that thermal...
This is a hotly debated question.
Rivian has stated that the vehicle will use the motors to pre-heat the battery when you use climate control.
It's much more effective when plugged in as they default to less power to save range (no way to modify that currently)
There's debate as to the...
