  1. 50.1 cruise makes me nauseous

@Zoidz Good things to consider. Tire pressures were two at 49psi and two at 50psi. Winds were calm. The events were at a much higher frequency than wind. The motor indications moved like sound levels when listening to music. (I have video) I watched the main display and all indications were...
  2. 50.1 cruise makes me nauseous

Cruise control and Driver+ have the same issue. The power or regen is constantly increasing and decreasing when holding a constant speed. It feels like it is aggressively trying to hold +/- 0.1 mph. It can be seen on the motor displays too as constant changing levels of regen or power. It...
  3. Hertz to sell 1/3 of its EV fleet

I went to the hertz car sales website. 90% of the Teslas for sale have over 48,000 miles on them. For comparison 90% of the Hondas have over 50,000 miles on them. So they are keeping Hondas for 2,000 more miles than Teslas. This has got to be the biggest news story so far in 2024! SARCASM
  4. Performance Dual vs Quad - Acceleration, NVH and other differences?

Other comments reminded me of another reason I like the DMP more. I only drive the QM in conserve for long freeway legs. I much prefer the DMP in All purpose for long freeway legs. I can feel the very small delay for the DM to reengage. It doesn’t bother me at all. However, when I push the...
  5. Performance Dual vs Quad - Acceleration, NVH and other differences?

Back on topic. I turned the radio off in the R1S DMP. I can barely hear the rear motor spool up and down in the front seat in all purpose mode. Not annoying at all in any seat.
  6. Autosocks experience & towing in the snow

I was always taught high pressure/less contact patch works better in the snow and ice.
  7. Performance Dual vs Quad - Acceleration, NVH and other differences?

@portdirect I forgot to note that the R1S was brand new and the tires were probably less efficient than worn OEM 22” tires and the R1T had 10,000 miles in it, here you go:
  8. Performance Dual vs Quad - Acceleration, NVH and other differences?

We have an R1T QM and an R1S DMP. They would both be DMP if I could go back in time. About NVH: the QM has a perceptible motor whine from the front motors. The DMP front motor is hard to detect. When I sit in the middle row of the R1S DMP I can barely hear the rear motor. It sounds like it has a...
  9. Quad motor vs locking diff

The QM off road is significantly better with the recent updates. However I believe the DM will outperform the QM in 98% of off road situations. I’ve mentioned this before, but the DM can put over 400 ft-lbs of torque to any wheel with traction control doing its thing. The QM can send less than...
  10. Mysterious Tire Pressure Loss

If you filled them up immediately after driving for a while the pressure would be 3-5 psi higher. Plus a loss of 50F would lose another 4-5 psi. Always set tire pressures for vehicles when cold for on road driving.
  11. Efficiency Vs. Temperature: Data Update, Conserve Only Helps in Warm Temps.

@Riviot Good point for someone to consider the tax implications. However, it doesn’t change anything for me.
  12. Efficiency Vs. Temperature: Data Update, Conserve Only Helps in Warm Temps.

Changes were quad to dual performance and large pack to max pack. Price comparison was pre price hike quad large. Price breakdown: $75k dual perf adventure $7k max battery $3.5k paint and interior Original quad/large was: $75.5 quad adventure $3.5 paint and interior So it was $6,500...
  13. Efficiency Vs. Temperature: Data Update, Conserve Only Helps in Warm Temps.

We received an email from Rivian offering to let us switch to a DM performance max pack R1S from a pre price hike QM large pack. Same configuration for everything else and only $5,000 more. We quickly took the offer since that was exactly what we wanted. (Didn’t need the max pack but still...
  14. Quad vs dual motor performance

Off road the DM performance is far superior. The quad motors have overheated on me going up a long, slippery sand hill. Losing momentum and getting stuck was the bad outcome. Also the most any single wheel can get with a quad is less than 250 ft-lbs of torque. With a DM performance and traction...
  15. Tesla Tap Mini 80 not working on R1S

When setting up the destination charger there is probably an option to only charge Teslas. If the person that set it up chose that option there isn’t anything you can do. Funny thing is that when you buy the Tesla J1772 charger and set it up the option to only charge teslas is still there.
  16. Dual motor real life efficiency?

Another observation is the difference in motor temps. Freeway driving in 70F temps the DM runs about 30F above ambient and the QM runs 70F above. Lots of waste heat. I wonder if the max packs have better inverters that run cooler (and more efficient).
  17. Dual motor real life efficiency?

Keep in mind the EPA numbers are in AP mode. The QM R1T was in conserve mode. Also the DM R1S was brand new and new tires are less efficient for a little while. Another advantage for the QM is that the R1T is slightly more efficient than the R1S.
