So far from my understanding the max may not have gained any weight, some kind of improved density instead. Now I am on the fence, wish I could have the Explore QM back.
If the X suits your needs then you don't need what the Rivian is offering. They should not be the same price point. You are comparing a car to a very versatile SUV.
The X was way overpriced to begin with. It appears as though it needed some price adjustment anyway, feel bad for the early buyers...
I would say that the X & the R1S have as many things opposing as they do in common, might as well compare it to a hybrid Sienna.
For those that like off roading the R1S is the better choice of the Rivians.
I would say the EV9, Id Buzz, & Ex90 would also be a better buy over the R1S using the...
The X has 0 appeal for many buyers, not to mention it is not a comparable vehicle. I suppose you would be equally or more foolish to buy any premium ICE SUV over a X as well then? This is where most buyers will gravitate from.
I really don't see how the X has any bearing on the R1S, it's not even the same class of vehicle.
They could have the standard pack Explore package for a more budget conscious buyer.
You should be fine, I managed 132miles with 10% remaining towing 7000lbs through the Cascades(Manning Park) the return trip will be better. Just keep speed to 60mph.
30% flat 50miles(30%) 43% up the pass (41miles) & only 17% (41miles) down going east.
Towing a dump 4000lb (empty) dump trailer with a net loss of 1300' I netted 2.32m/kw they same route going up with max load was 1m/kw.
The average was 1.66m/kw.

The cells in the Large pack have been Samsung 5000 mAh 21700s. LG has a 5800 mAh on the mass market now, so it's entirely possible Rivian was able to buy higher capacity cells from somewhere.
5000 to 5800 would be a 16% increase, which would be 408 miles multiplying off 352. But...
58 miles more with the 21" isn't too far off 70miles.
I have a V-nose 7L x 4W x 5H cargo trailer & wasn't expecting much of a impact on range however it was noticeable but certainly not 1/2 the range probably more like 20% hit to range.
Go as light & aerodynamic as possible.
Weight matters when...
I would take the minivan for those uses, yes the Rivians are tall to climb in & out of.
As far as versatility I was thinking more along the lines of towing, truck like purposes & adventure use.
Honestly I think the Honda/Toyota minivans have more style than the X
Versatility between R1S & X is not even close.
Crappy deal though for previous X buyers.
Mine recently sat for 16 days while away 1% per day loss.
Same configuration no winter driving yet but getting 2m/kw since purchase with regular mountain pass(9,000 gain/loss) driving & living at 850' above town as well as plenty of towing.
Winter tires may be better than the AT's
Been using...
For something they claimed would come out first it should have been designed, the goal posts have moved.
-max to come out first
-max to be 180kwh
-max to be QM
-max to have 5year/175K mike warranty(assumed)
-max to have 835hp/900ft/lbs tq
-max to have all drive modes
Am I missing something?
In...
Maybe you want to defer due to unforeseen circumstances & reconfigure at a later date. They will likely make more profit under these circumstances anyway with a higher margin on both.
It appear that the max pack payload stays the same or improves due to the 120lb lighter motors.
Its hard for a...
Looking at some of the variables I am glad it is not 180kwh with reduced payload/towing/(storage?) capacity.
400 miles with a lighter pack, is better than 400miles with a much heavier one.
The R1S is said to have 390 as opposed to 410.
Maybe they want/need the margins on the pre march max...
