I am curious of your pre-order date.
The R1S max is not yet a option therefore understandably will not be available for the pre-march pricing. Any reason you can't reconfigure to R1S & take the large pack? So many reasons to take a shop QM over the DM.
The R1S DM max will be at the very least...

Changing to All season will improve this, I am getting 300+ miles on the 20"AT with mixed hwy & mountain pass driving..
Could stay with 21" & use the savings for aftermarket or take off 20" (20" offer more rim protection)
i would keep the underbody shield after seeing some of the...
There is also the reduced warranty on the DM. You will likely be holding out for an indefinite period of time. The DM max with 20" may only be a 20-50 mile boost to range depending on use of towing/conserve-all purpose modes & pack size/density.
They claim improved energy density on the max...
Mine has been better than expected with the configuration of 20" wheels & QM.
Today over a mountain pass (4700'gain/ 5800'loss) with a mix of all terrain, sport, & conserve modes & generally over the speed limit was sble to achieved 2.34 miles/kw for a range of approx. 305 miles based on 130kw...
Nov 2018 order with Vancouver SC 50 miles away, new delivery window Jan/Feb 24.
I will wait just a bit longer to see if any deliveries happen this fall south of of us.
It is feeling like the max is just a fantasy, R1S & DM large orders a priority now.
Some good deals in the Shop, 2022 sounds ok considering 2018 pricing. Range gap not so bad & infrastructure improving.
Not at all, R1S & DM for the foreseeable future.
Get one from the shop while pre-March still valid.
Thats what I've been thinking.
The charge vs reduced pack size should...
I assume you live in a warm/dry climate? Will the DM not drive like the QM in conserve above X speed?
How is that any different than the DM?
I don't see it being that large of a concern, the new DM will essentially be doing that most of the time. No noticeable tread concerns here with QM & hwy...
I am pretty sure at some point my quad max delivery estimate was fall 2021, its been processing for some time now. ?
They are busy with backlogged R1S production, its going to be a while yet.
They are still unable to share pack size so i am not expecting anything this year, mid 2024 is my guess.
In this case I can not see any benefit to going dual assuming the same pack size. The range is no better than quad/conserve. I was only 10% shy of 350 range on 20" in the mountains.
The warranty is shorter, less of almost everything, resale almost for sure lower, I don't see the upside.
They...
Currently on my trip meter I achieved 3.88km/kw (2.41m/kw) This is with R1S quad on 20" AT with a 500km (310mile) return trip in conserve over a mtn pass (10,000 ft total gain/loss) and some local driving that involves a 850' climb/descent every time I leave home, 10% of the time was towing a...
