The reason why all R1s do it (including G2) is because of the axel design. These are the axels our trucks have. It’s the movement on the linear extender.
I hear clatter on all four wheels. And it’s not suspension articulation. I’ve confirmed that. Jounce line squeak was fixed via the TSB when they also swapped all air springs for G2
You say “quiet” but consider that everyone’s threshold of quiet is not the same. My wife and or another friend who owns an R1 G1 says they don’t hear any noise. I hear it on both.
I know it is. I’ve heard from internal at Rivian, it’s here to stay. Maybe G3. It’s just part of this design. I’ve learned to look past it. Tons of good stuff in the vehicle otherwise.
They are. But they are retrofittable to G1. Our G1 quad has G2 front dampers and air springs. It’s a coil over setup, so it’s one assembly. Unlike the rear, it’s a separate air spring and damper. So in the rear, you could have G2 air springs, and G1 dampers.
What’s very curious is that they...
Also, that tri-max I tried had the same PN rear dampers I have on our gen1 (rears are original). Just confirmed it. This trimax just came off of the assembly line. It does however, have the refreshed air springs like our gen1 (replacement gen2 has).
I am confident, we are looking at axle noise.
100%, and the timing was very odd. That update that fixed a lot of suspension issues was launched right when gen2 launch happened. I bet a lot of improvements were software on gen1 and gen2.
Agree with everything, BUT, to me the airbags not only improved the noise area, it made the car softer and I believe fixed 99% of the porpoising I used to experience. The only sound I have on ours, is axel in all four corners. That is not something that gen2 has fixed either.
On mine, when they replaced the front ones for new ones (they were noisy and used the gen2 revised PN’s) I said I would not want two different style struts between front and back so I spoke to a manager to match the front with new rear ones so that the car was uniform. He agreed.
Pic of the new...
