Arguing semantics? Regen decreases how much range you lose due to stop and go. Decreased wind resistance due to lower speed is what makes city driving more efficient than freeways. If you don't maximize the regen you might not see as much gain from decreased speed.
Driving slow on highways works...
I'm honestly considering the 300 mile pack more than I thought I would. I've been playing with websites that help with trip planning to figure out what my needs really are. I started with the view that I "needed" the max pack. I'm no longer so sure given the extra $ and weight.
I really need to...
I understand your hesitancy, however this is a promising venture. While there will be environmental impacts for nearly anything, we have to consider the state of the ecosystem. It's a mess. The Salton Sea never should have been and is guaranteed a painful death under the effects of climate...
Do I want lithium mining in my back yard? Yes, but it depends on how it is done.

Not to mention the fact that not all Rivian buyers will be rich. I'm not (I do ok). This will be my first "premium" vehicle. I would not purchase something more expensive, nor would I purchase an ICE vehicle at anywhere close to this price (within 20-30K of it). Rather than move to a nicer house...
I don't plan on getting the 21". I think they will lack traction so they won't be good in mud but I'm more concerned about the lighter nature (fewer plies) that would make them bad for rocky conditions that I would see regularly off road. So, I think it really depends on the condition of the trail.
This conversation makes me wonder (ok, I already have) what the weights are on the various 20" wheel options and if any of them offer an aerodynamic advantage over the others (the brights seem to have less of a gap, but that doesn't really tell me). I'm not sold on one based on appearance so I'd...
The Prius is a real car. While the glory days of the Prius are likely behind it, given the rise of fully electric vehicles, the Prius was an important gateway towards reduced emissions and increased fuel efficiency. Not only that, the Prius is a technological marvel simply because of how well it...
Sure, but if they engaged in "normal" driving, it is possible to drive with greater focus on efficiency. Thus it is likely that someone could see modest improvement on that number if they make the attempt. I regularly achieve above the EPA mileage estimate in our Prius while my wife generally...
Why?
In a Prius, with a small battery, you can see how much the regen charges the battery, allowing you to go further on battery power, saving fuel. Why would it work differently in anything else? Why put regen in if it doesn't do anything. A lot depends on driving conditions, but I can get...
I almost always get above 60mpg and often get around 70mg around town. The key, as it will be for extending range in an EV, is to avoid hitting the accelerator hard (except when you must) and maximizing regenerative braking, often allowing you to avoid coming to a stop which ends up helping with...
Yes, because of the lack of options. I could try running on passenger tires for the first 30K but I'd be even more concerned about durability off-road than traction (I'm unlikely to see mud).
I'd consider something like this slightly lighter, lower resistance LT tire as a replacement tire, but...
Agreed. For that reason I'd be interested in knowing if there is any significant difference in weight between the 20" wheels. I'm not aesthetically sold on a particular set and would consider choosing for a small efficiency gain. In the same line of thought, I'd probably shop around for a...
