I feel a little excited as this is really the first car since my first car where I felt like I've done enough to warrant a build journal online with some photos of the progress so far.
I've had the car for a little over 3 weeks now, it's an absolute blast. People ask me how it is to drive and I...
Thanks. Between this and their recently announced service deal with Amerit, it's great to be an asset-light OEM! You barely have to do anything at all!
RJ hired some pretty heavy hitters in manufacturing leadership over the course of launching these vehicles. Matt Tall (original VP of MFG) had been at AM General for ~25 years and brought basically all of his direct reports over to lead the various plant departments. Why he left for FF after...
I’ll have to caveat a lot of this, because my inner former engineer keeps saying “remember Mike, you are not a tire engineer.” So, I’m not an engineer (anymore), let alone a tire engineer, although I do work for a tire company.
Having now said that, I don’t know that I buy MOI = rolling...
Think it's worth keeping in mind the amount of this behavior that is now managed by software rather than hardware and physical connections - we have 100% software-control of spring rate, ride height, roll stiffness, steering angle, as well as brake and drive torque. This means that you can...
Just a side note, the work you guys do is BA. Had the fortune of having good millwrights on some of the auto plant changeovers I worked on, and it made things much less stressful. What you all learn through apprenticeship is as rigorous and disciplined as any top-notch engineering program.
I'm sure there was extra effort to make Q1 look as good as possible, but with some recent news (max pack EPA estimates, RJ going on a podcast, etc.), I wouldn't be surprised to see wait times start to come down to pretty quick if you meet the following criteria:
R1T, large pack, quad motor
Live...
OK truck friends, who's got recommendations for a "go-to" kit of stuff to tie down loads in the bed with? This is my first truck and I don't want to get caught out when people starting asking me to help haul things around :).
I had planned the swap for yesterday, but the folks at the store didn't order my tires before the Saturday delivery cutoff from the DC. When I get them, I'll absolutely post some pics and impressions.
The ironic part of this is that I called ahead to make sure they had them on hand or ordered...
This. Rivian is using Android for Automotive to the best of my knowledge, and the platform doesn’t (yet) support CarPlay or AA. But there should be some future deeper integrations with phones that the platform can/should do to replicate functionality of CP/AA so they feel less needed.
I'm disappointed in your brand choice (wink wink) but interested to hear how they perform. I've got my swap planned for this weekend and will share thoughts as well.
Watch Doug DeMuro's off-roading video - he raises a very interesting point in that the WAY you drive a quad motor off-roader is fundamentally different regarding this. When a wheel slips, they've designed the system to sense that and respond by "seeking" a wheel where torque applied = forward...
Agreed 100% re: load. And please, internet, don't overload your vehicle and expect good things to happen.
I did see on another thread that some folks were putting pretty significant numbers in the bed, though. If you're doing this, and you have LT tires, air them up for optimal results :).
Recognizing your analysis here (I did not know this about LT tires, but I try to stay away from our core business as much as possible!), wouldn't higher pressures still lead to the typical wear pattern from overinflation (more in the center and less towards each side of the tread?) Just because...
1: your ridge grapplers have a lower speed rating than the pirellis or others. Keep an eye out.
2: as others have mentioned, there’s a big segment for these tires - also stuff from BFG, General, Firestone, Bridgestone, etc. I’m planning to swap the pirellis for the Dueler A/T Revo 3 in this...
