Hard to see in that picture because of low light and angle, is that all the different options for key fobs? Or is that the progression of the design process? Very neat idea and love that it's waterproof! But yeah, hopefully it's not at the expense of bulk.
@jimcgov3 just curious, why don't you...
I haven't used Alexa much myself (I live in Google's world), and my initial emotional reaction is "do not want!". But that's maybe based on my experience with most other vehicle voice assistants that are basically useless because:
- they cannot understand what you're saying, either the words, or...
Agreed to both points, and personally I don't mind the RIVIAN on the tailgate, but hope that they go the clean Tesla Model 3 route by leaving off the "R1T" and trim level badging.
I also thought the new Defender looked awesome, but then like you also remembered that it's not electric and therefore would have some drawbacks because of that (oh how the tables have turned :) ).
Just some corrections/additions to your specs:
R1S:
Approach/Breakover/Departure Angles...
Couple of questions I've got that I'm hoping someone can ask for me:
* Can the engineers/designers comment about the changes we saw in the Argentina prototypes. eg. are the tailgate changes what the production models will look like? Can they talk about the motivations behind the changes? I know...
A few more pictures in a follow-up Autoblog article: https://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=es&u=https://autoblog.com.ar/2019/09/06/long-way-up-la-travesia-electrica-de-ewan-mcgregor-largo-desde-ushuaia/
This one is relatively nice and high res:
I think I preferred the showroom rear end too, I don't want the R1T turning into a square F150. I also share your departure angle concerns. I found this side profile picture, which I think makes me feel a bit better:
(Sorry for poor resolution, this is a screenshot that was cropped from...
One feature request I had was the ability for the airbag suspension auto-level the vehicle when parked. The use case here is if you're sleeping in the SUV or have got a tent on the roof or bed. I imagine this shouldn't even be too hard to implement, should be software feature since I think all...
I'm seeing LT275/65/R20 in the photo of the R1T. R1S says 275/50R22. Though I wouldn't buy anything until it the spec is official. Though I'd be surprised if they changed that between now and production.
@EyeOnRivian, pretty sure this is old news, but it sounds like there will be a number of events where you can come and test drive the vehicles. I asked about locations and they said geographically spread out something like "west coast, central, east coast". Didn't sound like Canada was included...
Oh and one more thing: I asked and was told the trailer hitch would be hidden behind a removable/replaceable panel of some sort to maintain aerodynamics when you don't need it.
I've been meaning to type this up for a while now...
In brief, I'm even more sold on Rivian :) I loved being able to talk directly to the designers and engineers, and they all seemed very passionate about their work, with great answers to all my questions. When talking to the employees, I ended...
I can also confirm that not all the cameras are present in the prototype vehicles. At the Denver event I was specifically told about cameras would be added under the side-view mirrors looking backwards. There was also a rumor? about a Tesla-like sentry mode that could watch the contents of the...
I've always wanted to visit CO to do some trail running and mountain biking, so this event is a perfect excuse for a small vacation. Plus, as a climber, seeing Alex Honnold is a nice bonus. See you there!
Some of the new bits of info from the video:
audio system "target higher than Audi" - This is actually the first I've thought about the audio system, and now that I think of it, I don't recall seeing any speaker grills anywhere in the prototype vehicles...
the Rivian charging network will be...
