I actually got another email today. Still nothing has changed on my custom orders, they all just say "Configuration Confirmed". I chatted with a Rivian Sales person, and they seemed to think it was just a general email simply due to the fact I've got the order, nothing to do with status change ☹
Did you get an email today titled "Get ready for your digital purchase process"? I'm wondering if it's just mass market to keep stringing us along, or targeted for specific customers. My custom Canadian order still is just sitting in "Configuration confirmed" status.
Crazy that Rivian seems to have both too much supply AND demand at the same time (from the perspective of an outside observer).
Rivianroamer.com reports > 700 gen 2 vehicles in the shop. Even if we assume that they're double-listing some of those as Large+ packs, seems crazy they're not...
IIRC in interviews regarding the Gen 2 design, Rivian admitted that the old design of the 12V battery charging system was such that a large number of systems had to be powered, which is the source of the waste. The Gen 2 design now has a dedicated subsystem.
Nice. I'm still waiting for gen 2 in Canada (despite evidence to the contrary that this will happen in time...). I'll settle for a sturdy mule instead of a unicorn if I can still my discount.
Free charging is bad, and you should be against it in any form.
It results in a worse DCFC experience for everyone because it incentivizes weird things like using a limited resource to save a few dollars instead of charging at home. Tesla did it right with adjusting pricing based on demand...
Most of Canada STILL can't get a Rivian even if they wanted to. Parts of Ontario and Quebec only in the last month or two have started doing deliveries with limited selection. Others live many hours away from a service center and sounds like Rivian won't cover towing charges even for warranty...
I just noticed Rivian has updated this page: https://rivian.com/support/article/what-is-a-preorder-price-voucher
Although I don't love this, at least it's crystal clear now:
Not great news for Canada that there's no Canadian version shown here yet (and we have no 2025s in the shop either): https://rivian.com/support/article/r1t-owners-guide
☹
Having watched a few other videos now, Kyle's is FAR better for any enthusiast, or really anyone familiar with Rivian at all. The others miss out on many of the important changes, don't include interviews with the knowledgeable Rivian engineers, waste viewer time by talking about things that...
