Holy incoherent screed, Batman.
Look, I’ve complained about the configurator delays plenty (in good jest, I assure you) but at the end of the day, it’s a matter of getting it done quick, or getting it done right. Even if the configurator doesn’t come out until December, that would still put it...
I’ll likely be going with Mountain Black, just out of habit. Every car I’ve ever owned (except for my Atacama V70R) has had a black interior, and everything else just looks weird to me at this point
I’m likely gonna go with the electrochromic roof. Living (near) Seattle, it rarely gets hot enough for long enough to put me off an all glass roof.
Plus, a magical opaqueness altering roof is one hell of a party trick!
Oh, I would 100% rather wait and have a fully accurate configurator.
But after so many delays, ya gotta just sit back and laugh about it. Jokes are good for the soul
Considering just how many times the configurator has been delayed, when it finally does come out, it had better be the most god-damn amazing configurator the world has ever seen.
Like at this point, I’m expecting a holodeck, but for designing a car
Personally, it’s half because they’ve been saying “it’s right around the corner” since mid-2019, and half because I am just V bored. Plus, their reply to many questions about specifics has been “that info will be available in the configurator.”
So I think it’s less about the configurator itself...
I mean personally, I would rather have the configurator out now with a disclaimer saying “options subject to future changes” rather than this constant string of missed (and seemingly self imposed) deadlines.
I think the “crap flying” about the perpetually delayed configurator is less about the...
Don’t get me wrong, I still have full faith in Rivian to produce their vehicles. But the configurator has been delayed what, two/three times now? First it was end of 2019, then it was Q2 of 2020, then it was “Late Summer,” and now it’s just a vague “Later This Year”
TBH, I find it *slightly*...
To be fair, Rivian has always positioned themselves as a high end vehicle. In one of the first interviews I read with RJ, he was asked if it would be fair to say that the R1S was like a cross between a Range Rover and a Model X, and he said that was accurate.
So the luxury aspect has always...
It would be quite interesting to know the demographics of people on here!
For instance, I am a twenty-something with disposable income! Though, the only rock climbing I ever did was in high school aha
While it would be undoubtedly cool to see Rivians on the road by the end of the year, I’m highly highly doubtful that we will.
Rivian has always had an attitude of “slow and steady” with everything they do, so it would be highly out of character for them to just floor it and put out the cars...
On the most recent video Rivian posted, someone in the comments asked about the configurator, and the response was “Our configurator tool is right around the corner! We’ll be in touch with more details soon”
So we’ve got “right around the corner” and “soon” all in one comment!
Did anyone else notice that it looks like a Lunar Rock interior, but has a dark trim around the dashboard? Is this maybe the non-metal option that’s been mentioned?
Honestly, at the rate they’ve been pushing back the configurator release, we probably won’t see it until after the cars have already been delivered
I too emailed Rivian, mostly out of boredom, just to see if I could get them to slip up about the configurator. No such luck, unfortunately, but I did get a slightly different reply than RforRivian.
The response email I got said:
“We're still tracking toward the launch of our vehicle...
I’m in the Seattle area, so my plan was to fly to Chicago and then just rent a car to drive the two-ish hours to Normal. Figure I’d keep things simple
Oh I know. Regardless of my complaining, at the end of the day I still believe in the company, and I’ll still put in my order when the time comes.
It’s just cathartic to complain about things
