  1. Wall charger wire gauge question

I've also done it the hacky way on car stereo installs, but yes, these are better: https://www.elecdirect.com/lug-compression-connectors/reducing-crimp-splices/copper-reducing-crimp-splice-4-awg-gray-to-6-awg-blue Oh for sure, if he's already doing 6awg THHN in conduit, might as well charge...
  2. Wall charger wire gauge question

Still not worth it. Keep in mind that if you're using Romex and not THHN in conduit, this is just good for a 50A circuit for 40A charging. You need to drop to 4awg if you're using Romex and want to put it on a 60A circuit. Not worth the increase just for 20% faster charging IMO. 40A charging...
  3. Wall charger wire gauge question

I did 50ft 6awg Romex for my first Tesla UWC since it was run in-wall. I did 8awg in conduit to the second one about 15 feet away. These share a 50A breaker and are set at 40A charge speed. 4awg is definitely not necessary.
  4. As you might have guessed.... higher gas prices has increased interest in EVs [ADMIN WARNING: NO POLITICS]

I wouldn't be so quick on that one. A transformer upgrade for a high rise can be tens of thousands (or more). Add the EVSEs wiring, and associated construction (digging up parking lots, sidewalks, etc.) and the bill for each one can be $2k-$5k. A condo might use a special assessment to fund...
  5. As you might have guessed.... higher gas prices has increased interest in EVs [ADMIN WARNING: NO POLITICS]

It's certainly possible for SFHs to install enough charging capacity for an EV or two in most cases, but that's not where the large infrastructure impasse is. Multifamily dwellings like condos, especially those built decades ago, don't have the upstream capacity to just install a dozen or so L2...
  6. As you might have guessed.... higher gas prices has increased interest in EVs [ADMIN WARNING: NO POLITICS]

Here's a good article about EV charging challenges: https://www.ncsl.org/energy/how-states-help-streamline-ev-charging-deployment-to-efficiently-meet-demand L2 charging being what it is, DCFC rates can also improve the owner experience. But this is a challenge of both the charging provider...
  7. As you might have guessed.... higher gas prices has increased interest in EVs [ADMIN WARNING: NO POLITICS]

Not easy for everyone. There's no way I'd own an EV if I couldn't charge it at home. 40-50% of the US population can't feasibly charge at home.
  8. Are we losing Driver+ auto steer?

LKA (and AEB) will not go away since they're tied to the safety rating of the vehicle. Technically they could enshittify cruise control like Tesla did, but I think they need to be profitable for a while first.
  9. Are we losing Driver+ auto steer?

The confusing part is their language about what "lane change assist" is. You're not "assisted" by the platform when changing lanes; you do it yourself. When you signal with D+, the system remains active for speed until you get into your new lane, and then autosteer resumes. They should...
  10. Stealth XPEL or clear on Borealis?

I did frontal PPF on my Miata. I agree that it is the best value in protection. I have no rock chips elsewhere, but I am a bit more careful when cleaning the non-PPF'd areas. No worries of swirls when cleaning the PPF. As for the original question, clearly you should do clear. Don't hide...
  11. Introducing EV Play "Auto-Mate" for Rivian® -- automate your center-screen functions

It seems like you actually see the taps occurring, so I could see it change to sport mode. With that in mind, I don't think there'd be the need for the app to make sound, but maybe someone would want that. I have experimented with the new kneel mode activation, but that seems less reliable at...
  12. Introducing EV Play "Auto-Mate" for Rivian® -- automate your center-screen functions

It looks neat, and it may be a way to effectively bypass some of the stupid forced settings like AP mode after a sleep. I park in a low parking garage at work, and when I enter the garage, I set the suspension to lowest to avoid hitting things hanging from the ceiling. When I drive home, I...
  13. RJ Selling Rivian Stock

As others have said, this has been planned for close to a year: https://eletric-vehicles.com/rivian/rivian-ceo-sells-17450-shares-under-trading-plan/
  14. Is now the time to buy a used Rivian R1T/R1S?

But that's just it, I definitely think you should sleep on the current inventory. The influx of leases is just starting. What seems like a good deal now will be a Facebook Marketplace "I know what I have" listing in 6-9 months that everyone will laugh about. The warranty difference becomes a...
  15. Is now the time to buy a used Rivian R1T/R1S?

I'd definitely wait until late this year or early next year. This is based on Rivian registrations, estimating 50-60% being leases. My lease is up the end of Q2 in 2027. Quarter Period Estimated Count (Off-Lease) Primary Source of Inventory Q2 2026 Apr – Jun ~1,200 24-month leases from Q2...
  16. Anyone considering trading their R1T for an LE R2?

Same here. If I'm going to daily a truck, I'd like it to be smaller. I guess I qualify as a weird cross shopper as well in that I'm likely replacing the R1T next year with a Mini Cooper SE and another Ridgeline. I really like the Slate, but buying from a new automaker again is a bitter pill...
  17. A good time to own an EV - Gas Prices about to go nuts [LOCKED DUE TO POLITICS]

Many US cities are not built to be walkable/bikeable. The closest non-residential structure to me is ironically a gas station. It's a 2 1/2 mile walk through a (nice) wooded trail to the closest grocery store. That's nice for a lazy weekend, but completely untenable for daily life. A lot of...
  18. A good time to own an EV - Gas Prices about to go nuts [LOCKED DUE TO POLITICS]

It is easy to understand. His position is that anyone who couldn't afford or just doesn't drive an EV is just dragging us all down. Since that is not universally true, using such a blanket statement to describe everyone else is smug and condescending.
  19. A good time to own an EV - Gas Prices about to go nuts [LOCKED DUE TO POLITICS]

Pretty solid example of glibness here. Everyone who drives a gas car is not a "fool."
