I would argue vocal complaints IS the support Rivian needs. Such complaints have already caused them to reverse at least one bad decision. They NEED to hear when stuff is likely to scare off future buyers.
Well, what *I* would have expected is that they did enough Quality Control to know that the design was flawed and, yes, NOT deliver them until they were bullet proof.
Do you think that's because they didn't like it? Or financial trouble? Or maybe they were able to sell at a profit?
It just seems like a red flag to have people selling a car just a few months after buying it.
Two things about this seem unacceptable to me.
First: No matter what happens to the vehicle (barring structural damage), it should ALWAYS be possible to put it in "neutral" so it can be pushed to safety.
Second: There should be some type of back up battery on a separate electrical path that...
"Here's your amazing Truck. 90% chance it will be great. 10% chance it will strand you in the worst possible place and at the worst possible moment. Enjoy!"
Seems like a really bad design for the suspension to even be capable of dropping so low that it sits on the tires. It would be a no brainer to have some kind of physical block that keeps it from dropping that low.
Congrats all you guys. Because of you, RJ got the message. I'm not surprised at the reversal, but I AM surprised that he's letting canceled pre-order to be reinstated. THAT's very cool.
So, the question is: Did he restore trust? Or has the damage been done?

Rivian's announcement made me think of this old joke:
Doctor: I've got some good news and bad new.
Patient: Okay, give me the bad news first.
Doctor: I'm afraid there was an error in your chart and we in advertently cut off the wrong leg.
Patient: WHAT?!? That's terrible. You've ruined my...
That's true to an extent. But start up businesses often take losses for the first few years as they build up a happy customer base and brand image.
I think they'd have been better off, long term, taking the hit on the existing pre-orders (or at least not raising them the full amount). Consider...
How many heads would explode if, after hundreds of pre-order cancelations, Rivian made an announcement that they've decided to honor the pre-order price for anyone that's still in line! LOL
My 2c...
I'd rather see them raise prices than go out of business.
However, treating the early birds like this is really bad practice IMO. You were all cheer leaders and influencers and that helped bolster their brand. At MINIMUM, they should have made YOUR price increases far less than for...
