I just emailed this suggestion to Customer Service after my first use with the rack:
“I regularly use a hitch mounted bike rack and the constant alarm when backing up is not pleasant. Is there a way to scan the location of the rack (with or without bikes) and block that out when in “hitch mode”...
Sorry if this has been covered. The receiver on the R1T is built tough and therefore lots of reinforcing metal. The standard pin I purchased (3”, I think - see pic) was about 1/8” too short.
I use a 1-Up hitch rack. I prefer the lower height. Though, it does block the license plate area from view when bikes are loaded or the rack is folded up when not transporting a bike(s). Also, I have to fold it down if I want to open the tailgate.
Finally have a delivery scheduled for next week. If that comes through, it will have been
1,246 days (January 17, 2019 - June 16, 2022) since placing my reservation.
As a buyer, I like the beefy “overbuilt” construction. Lighter would be fine, but I wouldn’t want it in exchange for safety or durability. Opportunity to reduce cost is only important for stockholders and future models/production.
Might be good to update this or add a new survey about whether reservation holders of particular delivery windows actually got their rigs within that time frame. I'm also curious whether Rivian is tracking these metrics internally and holding anyone accountable. Seeing that the head of...

I'm inclined to consider the Rivian policy at least until production ramps up more. So a year or two of higher premiums could be worth it for awhile... I can always switch later.
