He is expecting too much. Only foreign manufactures, such as Kia, have antiquated features such as personal media player, car play, AM/FM radio, HUD, odometer/trip mileage on the driver screen, sunroofs that open - old school features from the last decade.

On Gen 2, just lift the cover between the wiper cover and the frunk tub. Pops right off. You only need to lift one corner if you want access to battery charging terminal.
